Hi Ian,and all,
Sorry Angie & I missed āthe doā, looks like you all enjoyed yourselves,I was busy loading these !
This was still in the Wheatsheaf car park on Monday!!
Iām glad to see you managed to keep GazIOW and Gerbil apart as Kev gets quite amorous after a few, I notice Jan reading the Sunday Sport was ignoring them
Surprised this old boy didnāt make an appearance !
This lad sitting down, his father was there I think.
Regards to all MaggieD
Just to let you all know Mrs Agnes Rawlings died last week rip. She was the wife of Suner Rawlings and mother to David rip and Jimmy and so therefore I suppose the start of a dynasty. She was a very memorable character to say the very least and Im sure many a Rawlings driver will remember being sacked by her for making too much noise in the yard when picking up a trailer.
She was in her mid nineties and the funeral is Thursday next.
Just a thought whilst Im on here has anyone heard from Charlie one lately he used to be prolific on here but seemed to have vanished of late.If you out there Charlie let us know you are ok.You know how much we all care
Hi everyone.Just back online after our extended holiday. We have now moved in to our retirement flat in Alton.Walking the dogs this morning in the local park I bumped in to Terry Sparrow.Haven,t seen him for about twenty years. He told me about the sad demise of Aggie Rawlings. He is going to pick me up on Thursday to go to the funeral.Hope to see a few of you ex Rawlings lads there. Thanks for your kind words Ian.Regards Charlie.
Hi Charlie,
Glad to hear you are ok !
I think Ian had heard you had won the lottery, and didnāt know where to send the begging letter,I told him youād already spent the tenner
Is Terry still built like a racing snake ? give him my regards when you see him.
Best of luck in your new home.
Regards Richard
Many thanks for your kind words Richard.Sparrow is still like a matchstick with the wood shaved off. I will pass on your regards on Thursday. He was working for Fingers until recently when he had stern words and resigned his commision.Best regards Charlie.
Charlie good to know you are still with us You started to get me concerned as I seem to remember you owe me 5s/6p which I lent to you on a night we were at Penkridge and you wanted to dally with a lady of the night but didnt have the funds.
I came to your rescue and lent you the money but you were gone very early the next morning so I was never sure if you were succesfull.
My brother Mick and I hope to be there on Thursday so you can reimberse me then.
Good to hear from you
I have just returned from a gathering at the Funeral of Mrs Agnes Rawlings as you can imagine a well attended affair.A number of ex drivers were there to pay their respects.Charlie Jago aka Charlie one was his normal self bringing a certain amount of mirth to an otherwise sad occasion. Also Terry Sparrow,
Dave Williams aka as Bungalow or brain damage my brother Mick and Jim Ferguson and Melvin from the office were amongst the mourners along with Jim and Mick Rawlings and also Kevin Rawlings who now runs the phoenix company of AS Rawlings.
It was good to see so many old faces but sad in so much as it was an end to an era.
Jim would like to thank everyone who attended.
A very well attended funeral.Pity a few more of the old faces were not there. In case anyone thinks that I may have been a bit flippant, its my way of handling these sad affairs. At my age I seem to be attending too many.On a serious note I would like to thank Traniht for letting me off the five and sixpence. Also thanks to Braindamage for not remembering me.Saved me a lot of boring repartee Regards Charlie
Actually Charlie it was 5s/4d as you reminded me 5 shillings for the lady and 4d for the return bus fare and I havnt really forgotten it but I didnt want to make a fuss on a day like today.
I have some pictures here but I am still having trouble loading them onto photobucket it copies to approx 1/3 and then stops what am I doing wrong
I do remember Aggie hanging out of the upper window of the house bellowing something at Richard one sunday morningā¦all he said was āHide, sheās on to us!ā Not sure what she thought we were doing but I disappeared around the back of the trailer for ages putting the number plate on!
Those that may be intereseted: I lost my phone on the LD LInes ferry from Newhaven coming home so I have a new number 699102356.
John Miles came into the bar last night for dinner on his way to Estapona. Top man. We couldnāt find your half open bottle of wine Ianā¦it must have gone out of date or summat!
A local friend of ours had an out of season holiday to Greece. He didnāt tell me where he was going, but once back said he had a lovely time on Skopolos! He said not many people on the island. Had he told me before hand I would have told him to look up āOlio!ā
Did āSpadgerā know about the summer gathering?
Jeremy Roberts (Badger) calling in for sunday roast next weekend.
Thought i had better put something on here before we loose ihe thread Hope every one is still ok.
Just a quickie.Thats all I can manage at my age.Had a very pleasant evening yesterday.Myself and my wife met up with traniht and his good lady who I must say looks young enough to be his daughter. We had a nice meal at the Wheatsheaf at North Waltham. The only problem was they would not take my Moto cupons or Ians Dkv card,so we had to rake up the cash.We both had tears in our eyes.I have found some Rawlings photos which I will try to post.Regards Charlie
Blimey Charlie, thatās two meetings in twelve months with Ian! Are you any nearer getting your pesetas back? The Inland Revenue can only go back six years!

Hya Rich, i,m a bit late in replying cos i,ve been off line for a bit.
His father was indeed there, a spitting image and just as young looking.
I enjoyed the do, was really great to see so many old faces.
Gazza peed me off a bit though, he,s not aged at all. Must be that Spanish sun.
It cant be the sunshine in Spain that got Gazzer so nice, it was because he liked the A S Rawlings blokes lol lol lol
