Your right Pat
I first met him when I was a nipper with Mays Motors fro Elsted he was really good to me and taught me a great deal.He also advised me not to gon For AS Rawlings as they were apparently not quite as a proper haulier should be.I stuck there for 15 years.
RIP JOHN
Hi Ian,
I think Chad is at Vitacress St.Mary Bourne,a bit different then racing to Vicenza to make sure you got into the compound before it was full,I can still smell those skins !
This is Chris Englefield at Victors one Bastille Day many years ago.
Regards MaggieD

You’ve let the cat out of the bag now Richard, WNY in the background and Angela elsewhere!
Maggie D I take it you are the male half of the team that swapped trailers with me so I could get your heavy trailer up to Victors many moons back. I only done it coz I liked Angies tight jeans
Just as your memory is starting to fade Ian, this is S*nya!
Thats the one high heels and all
Could we have a “Roll Call” of where people are (or supposed to be)?
Fred (Carrots/Sparky) Sparks; Piacenza Italy I would think as he still on for Alberti Santi.
Mick (Olio) Cairns: A Greek Island somewhere.
Chris (too smooth to move) Englefield: White van man in Bournemouth.
I cant remember who was driving this at the time. Was it David?
I dont think david would have been driving the forklift,It would have been either of the Jims I expect.
Thats Jim Rawlings or Jim Ferguson their fitter who retired about 5 years ago and now does a bit in lailys workshop I believe.
As to the roll call I think Richard Goodchild is living somewhere near Valencia but not sure on this. My brother Mick H lives on the IOW but still comes over each week and does a bit of driving for a tipper firm near Guildford.I wander about between here and Comares in Andalucia trying to make a penny or two where I can.Mick Cairns was on the Island of Skopelos but I havnt heard for a couple of years. Dave williams went from Rawlings when they packed up and at first done a bit for Norman Offer but now I have no Idea.Maybe someone can help us out here
Hello Ian,
And there’s me thinking you did it for the money/meal at Victors !!
Regards Richard
On the pic of Mt Cenis and Chris’s truck…who is over the road, 2 blokes, by that orange Merc and what looks like an unwritten Mammouth kangaroo, or was it a Louis Bull one?
Hi Gary,
Hope you are well, get news of you from John Jelibar !
Louis Bull’s FTF555V Magirus was next to Chris, Brian Ward was the driver, I think the orange merc was a Bulgarian, or Yugo with 2 drivers, we were all at the top sun bathing.
Good pic of Son*a remember her on the carrot juice in Ravenna ! She’d been Tango’d
Regards Richard

Come on then Mays Motors
I had a 150 gardner Atki 51 mph allthough in silent seventh I would estimate 70 odd with the steering wheel breaking your wrists with the vibration.
Used to do Guildway ex Shalford to Pately Bridge Yorks with ready built buildings. Come on Charlie help me out I remember coming to your house in Farnham to have dinner with you and your lovely wife I think that may have been in another life. Do you remember John Hills and Jim Moody they taught me a lot.John how to sleep in a rabbit hutch of an Atki Borderer and Jim how to get to Dubai via the the British Legion in Elsted
Yes Ian I can remember very well you and your lovely lady coming to dinner. Also us coming to dine at your house in Alresford.I recall your wife giving me a jar of chutney and you were very upset and wanted to charge me but I resisted the temptation. As for John Hill and Jim Moody not a clue.Maybe someone out there will know. When I have more time I will post a little more.Best regards Charlie.
Charlie I love the bit about the chutney.
I spent a couple of days with Andy Harris last year he lives down in the Limousin speaks and acts like a Frenchman. We spent one of the evenings tasting his home made cordials!!! and reminiscing about persons like yourself
Lets have a few more memories Charlie

No I’m not offended Ian.I’m very busy at the moment.I’m driving a little car transporter for a garage.I’m just going out at the moment and will not be back until after tea. Will respond then. I’ve got some stories to tell about you that will make your hair stand on end.Later.Regards Charlie.
In my archive of old Truck magazines, ive found a couple off old articles about John Hood.
The first one is from 1977 when John drove a Marathon for R Blackman & Sons, and the second was from 1982 with a Leyland Roadtrain, both pulling Rawlings tilts. Both articles are really well written by the late Phil Llewellin and are well worth digging out if you can find them. Some great pics too. Does anyone know what happend to John?
Heres the Roadtrain.
