A question about trunking

The only job that ever caused me to lose weight was delivering bikes for Halfords. Draging those 20kilo boxes down the trailer by hand is pretty good exercise.

It was a pretty good place to hone up ones reversing skills too - some of those shops are unbelievable.

Thanks for that Neil, however it was only really the bit about trailer height limits which was relevant - the bit arronls posted above

Well, if you’ve got luck like mine - trunking can be a challenge!

My first ever day in an artic and I get two blind sides, a poxy tight little yard to reverse into a bay and one fairly easy reverse. Cant’ve been that bad though as I’m there doing night trunks most of next week!

Welcome to the real world of truck driving Darkseeker.

We have two trunkers at our depot. I considered doing it when I was offered it, as it is seen as the easy option…I was still a relatively new driver(6 months) But I feel it depends on the sort of person you are. I am easily bored, lot`s of energy and relish a challenge, so I quickly discounted the trunking, as I would have become brain dead within 3 days.
I do multi drop on a 44 ton artic…My first ever day driving an artic was July 29th last year, easy day. 1st drop Makro Croydon, 2nd drop Makro Acton, I decided to go through London, it was kind of a baptism of fire  I enjoyed it and found I could do it!

I enjoy multi drop now and usually have 4 - 10 drops a day and can do 600K in a day, but I usually do 3 - 500K, I see most of the south of England and have been stuck in places in London because of parked cars…The only advice I can give is : Do it slowly when it is tight and others are blaring horns and threatening to kill you…And always smile whatever it is that you do, and show no mercy in North London

I learnt quickly and with much sweating, but I find it rewarding, it all depends what kind of a person you are, once you know that, then find a job that suits, but sometimes, going outside your comfort zone can be immensely rewarding…We all make mistakes, it is in the way you communicate these mistakes to your manager that makes the difference (i.e. Think on your feet, don`t tell lies, if you tell lies about anything, in this day and age you will be found out)

If you can get trunking, your laughing providing you dont get bored easily. Forget RDC its great when double manning only

He was…Or was that Enfield, I dont know, they all merge into one after a while  I was in Makro Fareham today, she told me how to park my truck and everything, most helpful  Dont do many Makros these days though…Thankfully.
