First run I ever done was to that Minworth depot and it was an eye opener how organised they are considering how many flts are flying about

I’m a Talksport man all the way me Toby. Might give Radio 2 a go next week though.

Wait until it’s your first night back and you haven’t had anything like enough sleep for a multitude of reasons…check out the falling asleep thread! And don’t forget the fog!
Fog has caused more accidents in daylight than ever at night.
Imagine coming down the A12 in monday morning rush hour in thick fog compared to the same road at 2am…

I always found it far more difficult to stay awake in the afternoon than I ever have on the night shift. I think it’s just down to what suits the individual: some people are night owls and some are not, and that’s all there is to it. I heard something on Radio 4 about this, so it must be true.
All this gushing glorification of working nights and not one mention of the detrimental effect it has on your health?

I think there’s enough evidence here that their mental health has suffered…

Mine was never up to much in the first place.
Can’t beat working nights at the minute, start around 6/7pm. See the kiddies before the get ready for bed, nice to get back to the depot for around 5am the following morning before the idiots start to surface. Get home, have some breakfast and check emails/news etc, see the kids in the morning before school, sleep most of the day and then pick them up at 3:30pm. Get some tea and squeeze a bit if family time in in the sofa before I have to get ready for work.
Even better to finish around 4am Friday morning then not back in till Sunday night. Get up early Friday day (around 11am if I can). Up early Sunday so can have an hour in the afternoon before work.
Can be a pain finishing late in the morning though and trying to get home during the rush hour traffic. Can’t see why anyone would want to work a 9-5 job getting stuck in crawling traffic every day. How many hours must these folk spend sat in a traffic jam each week/month/year. Not for me.
Spent year night trunking in the past, it ruins your health and your life in the long run. In my job it really annoys me when the week starts as a night job, tomorrow for instance I have to start at 7.00pm … ON A DAMM SUNDAY FFS, just to do the assignment for Monday which means loading in NYC at 1.00 am Monday and delivering to Bethlehem PA by 7.00am, that will give me until 9.00am to get to somewhere to spend 10 hours in the sleeper, actually I could split the breaks with 2 hours as they load it and the 8 hours.
The point is that some time during the week, probably Wednesday I will be be back on days starting at 6.00 am, then Friday it will be a ridiculous 1.00am start again no doubt.
Companies here do not pay any extra for night or day work.

Nights are for newbies and for those without the prowess to handle driving during the day.
I like night work because it enables me to live like a teenager again, sleeping until all hours of the day, staying up late and drinking beer in the mornings.

Had my class 1 for 10 years, so not a newbie, but I drive like one. Does that count?
