A Job Offer....At last!

Day 2

Took out first two loads with driver sat next to me. Then the TM handed me keys and paperwork for my first drop on my own. :open_mouth: Had a nice relaxing drive to a small site. Was asked to reverse down a narrow driveway “other lorries have been all the way down it” i was reliably informed. I said it didn’t look like i was gonna get in but i’d have a go. I lined myself up and reversed in between the gateposts, there was no more than about 4" either side of the tipper body so I stopped. “perhaps the other lorries wern’t this big” said the builder. tipped it where I was and left. Next was 6tonne of 20mm into a carpark  plenty of room to manouvre, then onto a muck away job, enjoyed sitting around to be loaded…a few more loads then final load to a site that had locked up for the day, called the office and told to bring it back for the morning.

all in all a satisfying day. nothing to taxing, perhaps they were being kind with the jobs i got. it did me the world of good to get out on my own and do it for myself. learnt a lot today and it built my confidence. I hope there are more days like this but I know I will have some tough ones too. one of the other drivers lost a wing mirror today and another crashed through a manhole cover!!

onwards and upwards!! :sunglasses:

Glad to see your enjoying it. I found muckaway a nice easy number, you just have to watch what they put on on them jobs as they do like to pile in as much as they can. (once I was 4t over when I got on the weighbridge at the tip site…needless to say I gave the digger driver ■■■■ when I got back to site)

What are you driving by the way?

Any chance of some piccys

Just remember.

Tipper drivers “RAM” IT UP HIGHER

…almost end of week 2  still really enjoying it…there’s nothing like tipper driving to sort out your reversing eh… will try and sort some photos out

Oh yes - it certainly does! Just wait till you get your first reverse needing both mirrors pulled in just to get down some long narrow track! :unamused: Great fun… Sometimes!

…just thought i’d update to say the job is still going well and that i love tipping!!
The hours suit me great, the other guys in the firm are friendly and helpful and the pay isn’t bad either  and when my head hits the pillow i sleep like a log…in fact i sleep before i get to bed these days!!

My confidence has soared, though i’m being careful not to get complacent (that’s when the accidents might happen i feel) I havn’t damaged anything yet, i’ve experienced getting stuck and towed out and i’m getting a good feel for the vehicles.

when i see the artics on the road i still can’t help but wish i’d been able to make use of my C+E from the start, perhaps that’s still for the future but this is good experience for now and i’m extremely grateful to get a start. I’d definately recommend it to any newbies.

Has anyone got any tips for getting my other arm brown?

bye for now…
