A formal interview

well let me tell you the HR bod,and opps manager arrived late from Birmingham telling me sorry for the delay due to traffic etc, great fun standing around with 3 other blokes waiting for same interview, not a suite with anyone and the first thing they then tell me is that if I got the multi drop job that being on time every time was part of the job!!

So that was a good start least i got a free cuppa coffee

they went thro my CV with a fine toothcombe bla bla bla

then asked me why they should employ me um “because you need a driver was my reply” that broke the ice a bit and they lightened up a bit

HR lady then out of the blue asked me “if you were a truck what would i be?”

FFS I dont like silly games but i said id be a 1993 K reg Renault Magnum when they 1st came out they were ground breaking novel design etc etc wosh over her head i dont think she knew what it was or what a flat floor ment to a driver I just forgot to say alway breaking down thou!

so that was more or less it I wont be holding my breath

so folks in case i get that Q again what truck would you be? and why?

malcolmj:
thanks for the wonderful reply’s just tried my “suit” on but allais it too has shrunk in the wardrobe so i shall take an easy chair non recliner dont wanna be too relaxed

I shall let you know how i got on this time tomorrow

DON’T wear your wellies.

We went for the same job, think it was you I was chatting to, about Shedicks and others. I did not have any of that stuff you had at the interview, not even a coffee and only the fella interviewed me. Job sounds ok though.

you had it easy then, i just had to laugh when told of the importance of not being late for deliveries when thet couldnt get there on time
ps good luck cause im not holding my breath

I would be a tanker, because I can hold a lot of liquor, and don’t really mind whether I am being blown off or sucked off as long as I get tipped regularly. I am fitted with top and bottom discharge and large grab handles.

A Scania, because I think I’m a lot better than I really am and a lot of people hate me.

malcolmj:
HR lady then out of the blue asked me “if you were a truck what would i be?”

My reply to her asking that question would have been, “On time.”

Wouldn’t have got me the job but I don’t think I would want to work there.

If you were a truck?
What the hell is the world coming too?

Good luck…although you do realise that if you get the job then you are obviously adept in the art of bullspeak and bollox and we shall never trust anything you say again :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

HR lady then out of the blue asked me “if you were a truck what would i be?”

Surely the answer should be “If I were a truck then you would be looking rather silly talking to me.”

If the question was “if you were a truck what would you be?” Then I would try to remember what trucks they ran and choose them - “because they are the best.”

:grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

who would want to be a DAF85  but hayho needs must

malcolmj:
Been out of work sinse just before christmas rang around the local firms to me not much doing at the moment,( as ive been reading on
here),anyway had a look on job centre site last week I dont remember applying for this job,but company just rang me to formally interview
me Wednesday, all well and good but what is a formal interview?
Ive only ever done informal ones for jobs before, you know word of mouth come and see me and given the job.
Im 51 now what can i expect?
its with BSS class 1 work didnt even know they did artics.

Is it actually with BSS or P.T.S itself(same group). I know PTS have an out based job going based at Cardiff Docks as the truck was moved from Bristol not so long ago. Easy work just working on a set route in South Wales.

It’s with PTS, and it’s sounds like the job you mention. Truck in the docks and first drop Cardigan then the rest on the way back.

Well there used to be 3 trucks based in Avonmouth until P.T.S opened another depot in Cardigan. In order to get the drops done within driving hours the truck was moved to Cardiff Docks. Drops I think are Cardigan, 2 in Cardiff about 5mins apart, Cwmbran, Newport, Pontypridd, Swansea, Haverfordwest. There may be another but I can’t remember. I’m not sure if the same truck is being used on the run still as it was a daf cf space cab but that was given to the Bristol guy although he has his own truck back so not 100% sure who has what. Truck is shared by yourself & a night driver. The run is the same everyday so if you don’t mind that then the works easy. No handball you just drive & open curtains. You may also pick stuff up to be taken to another drop on your route. As long as you get on with the job the guys in Birmingham leave you alone. Its salaried for 48hrs but anything over that is payed at time & a half which is about £12.59hr. The trucks are basic but well looked after by the company with regular services etc. Anything else you wanna know just ask
