A.E.Evans,Regent Transport,Barking

Deltank was owned by Stolt Tankers, and became later involved with H&P Freightways in Hull, maybe some of the older hands in the office may know of Richard Evans and his whereabouts.

It was later sold to Extar BV in Rotterdam but went bust in 2005. Since then Extar has been owned by Den Hartogh.

Plenty of leads there Chris, best get your cloggy phrase book out!

That’s the one Ken.I left Evans Sheffield depot 1979 but I recall that he ran a Mandator sleeper.I had a photo somewhere but can’t find it :unamused: .It was the first sleeper I’d seen in Evan’s yard on Ripple Road. That livery was correct IIRC,blue and buff.Neales were next door to Evans and that Ship and Shovel used to get some hammer after work.

I don’t remember this livery either,it was all AEC and battleship grey when I was there, but it looks like Richard Evans was running the job even though it says AE Evans on the cab.I remember the driver’s face but can’t recall his name, not sure where the photo was taken either.

Chris Webb:
Bit of a long shot, but does anybody remember Richard Evans who was Albert Evans’ son? A.E.Evans ran grey AEC tankers out of Ripple Road Barking and also out of Sheffield.Richard went on his own in the late 70s working for a company called - I think - Deltank and did some Benelux work using the Olau ? Line ferry out of Sheerness to Flushing ('cos I can’t spell Vliss------- ).
I’d like to get in touch with him,so if anybody can help it would be much appreciated.A.E.Evans packed up in the 80s,but I left them in 1979.

Chris

just to let you know i am on line georgebloomer@hotmail.co.uk regards george bloomer

Hi George good to see you’re still kicking around. Cheers Mel CCK

Hi I worked out of BP Saltend with some of the A.E.Evans Sheffield lads, I was at Harold woods in those days and later at Smith & Robinson (Rothwell) I do remember that one of the Sheffield guys who was a dancer that threw himself off a block of flats in Sheffield when he discovered that he had cancer, although sadly I don’remeber his name I remeber him as a happy go lucky trucker who enjoyed his life.
In those days -1954/6 we were on 1p a mile empty and 1p 1/2p loaded. in later years at S & R we gor 1 hours pay for every 16 miles. The good old days?
Best regards to all you ex truckers. Alan Walker

Hi Alan, nice to hear from you.The last time we met was at J.Pass’s offices in Chesterfield when I took my third ADR in 1994 and you were the instructor.I still remember the petrol vapour trick. I was with Evans from 1969-1979 and did some work out of Saltend in the early years. The driver who commited suicide was Albert Noble, known to all as “Grimm” as he was always telling fairy tales, big blond haired feller,ex Palestine Policeman, very sad affair.
In spite of all that they were good old days - especially when you were on 1 hours pay for 16 miles - that was better than t’BRS.No wonder you couldn’t get on at S and R.
Take care,
Chris.
