A drivers diet.

dozy:
I’m 11 st , bag bones ,continue to loose weight , but I have to ridgidly follow a diabetic diet , I can’t answer for you but I don’t have crisps / chocolate bars , I was also advised not to drink coffee / tea prostrate , drink water
Being thin might look better than fat , but I’m not finding it much fun ( I’m now wearing small size boxers & they still keep falling down ) , belt sorts trousers .

This poignant post should tell everybody what they need to know. Dozy, no doubt can confirm, that it does not take years to lose weight. Give up refined sugar, and fast carbs like bread, and the weight will literally fall off you.
The fact that jumps out from the various posts is the addiction to refined sugars. As long as you carry on consuming too much of it, you will carry too much weight, and risk diabetes. Grapes, apples, bananas etc are all high sugar fruits, so throwing them down your neck and feeling virtuous is just kidding yourself. However, combine apple with peanut butter, and then you have a good combination.
NHS recommends 30g of sugar per day. Same as in one standard mars bar. Consider that when you reach for the chocolate when you queue to pay for diesel. Also, for those that tramp and have cans of heinz beans and spaghetti etc, one can probably contains half your sugar allowance for the day. Add white bread and something sweet afterwards, and you are way over.
When you eat ‘clean’, shopping is a breeze. Just avoid processed food, and if you want chocolate, buy 70% cocoa only. Your palate will change gradually, but you will eventually ignore the junk.
I have soup before I leave the house in the morning. Not a can of heinz rubbish, but usually Ramseys recipe watercress soup. Recipe is on youtube. It is delicious, and easy to make.
I take chicken and my own hummus (tahini (make your own, its easy), chickpeas, lemon juice and olive oil…and a bit of ■■■■■■■■■■■■ and paprika. Blitz until smooth). Never get sick of it. Just play with ingredients.
Strawberries are very low in sugar, blueberries moderately so. I put a mix of both in greek yogurt and make a strawberry compote…just buy some frozen strawberries and put them in a pan and break them down…drizzle compote over and eat.
Try making oat scones, recipe on youtube, then smear a bit of butter on them.
My favourite pate is Ramseys smoked mackerel. Buy a pack of said mackerel, peel skin off, blitz in food processor, add some horse radish, about a tbsp, add some philli cream cheese and some lemon, then blitz till smooth. I force it through a sieve so its extra smooth, and make your own crackers. It is addictive. Instead of snacking on choc, consider some of the cheeses. Manchego does it for me.
Typical weekend breakfast for me is 3egg omelette with mozzarella and some anchovies. Sausage, bacon and fried egg just turn my stomach now. Obligatory when younger, but they were different days, and we did not know as much as we do now.

Permanent afters for me…so,big dinner before I go.
Excellent butchers shop in the next village provides the ingredients.
Bit of pack up to take with me.
Don’t have a sweet tooth and don’t eat dairy, apart from eggs.
Early finishes are celebrated with takeaway and booze…otherwise it’s whatever leftovers I can scavenge, and a cup of tea.
Anything goes at the weekend.

It’s okay - you don’t eat dairy full stop - eggs are not dairy.

I personally,don’t class eggs as dairy…but I believe(officially)they are.

Personally I’d class anything that came from a cows ■■■■ as dairy and anything related to a chicken or what comes from its front bottom as poultry.

Breadman:
I’m gonna upset the apple cart a touch then,
Work day food(i work 5 over 7) would normally be 800g-1kg lean meat , 6 pack of bread rolls, salad or veggies depending on summer/winter and 2x protein shakes weighing in about 400 cal a pop , a small sarnie when I get in and a few beers to top it off, about 3600 cal a day.
Was 16 stone 6lb 3 years ago now about 12 stone 8
The downside is I tip a double decker of bread a day manually(my lot dont use wheels) usually 10-14 ton and pick up 5 ton on the way back to base .
I’m used to it now but was bloody hard to start . Im 52 btw and smack on 6 foot
Richie

Not really upsetting the apple cart though, you do a job where you burn enough calories that 3600 a day is less than you burn. When I was in the army we’d go through 4000-5000 when training and you’d lose weight because you were burning through a hell of a lot more.

start looking at the packets of the food your eating . Look at the amount of sugar your consuming .
Simple tips from a diabetic who HAD to cut as much sugar out of his diet as possible -
1- change your fizzy pop to diet / sugar free - give it 2-3 weeks and you won’t notice the difference
2- take outs , microwave meals are full of sugar - home cooked meals with less sauces (curry , pepper ,honey chilli etc etc )
3- stop putting sugar in your tea / coffee - swap over to a sweetner . make your own and don’t be stopping for Starbucks , Costa’s threw the day .
Normal humans have a blood sugar level of around 5-8 - the night I found out I was diabetic I had a Blood sugar level of 55 - the medical staff don’t know how I walked into the hospital .
Food is full of hidden sugar - it adds flavour and most of us have no idea just how much we consume every day - if you can manage your sugar levels you’ll be 90% of the way to maintaining a healty weight . A little exersise will take care of the rest .

I would say cut out the crisps ,have fruit instead. Try porridge instead of the corn flakes. As you have reduced activity you dont need the same amount of calories. Tell us how you get on. I am on the buses and I see some really fat drivers.

I used to dread, taking over from obese bus drivers, the sweat and odour in cab was awful …,plenty of times I refused to take over a bus, I used to carry a towel and disinfectant spray in the end and wipes form buttons steering wheel indicators etc … the old RML were ok, open up door and windows and done.
