A dark day on the Hume Highway, Sydney today, truck kills 3

Well at least the press over there are prepared to look at it from a less dramatic and biased angle :open_mouth:

Accident rate falls even with more trucks on roads

THE number of big trucks on the roads has increased at double the rate of cars, and many in the industry feel that so too has the amount of blame directed at trucks for road accidents.

The report, by National Transport Insurance, analysed more than 300 crashes. It found inappropriate speed for the conditions and fatigue were responsible for 42 per cent of truck accidents. But in eight out of 10 accidents involving a truck and a car, the car driver was at fault.

‘‘Truck drivers are professional drivers, they do it for a living, 99.9 per cent do it very well,’’ Mr Edmonds said. ‘‘At this time of year we have other motorists that aren’t used to dealing with fatigue and the road conditions, yet they pack up the wagon and drive five or six hours and that can be quite dangerous.’’

im just back from sydney this morning, i took my missus up for a trip in the truck, she learned a lot more than she thought she would about car drivers and how we save their lives on a daily basis by pre-empting their foolish actions

THE truck driver involved in a head-on collision at Menangle that killed three members of one family has been convicted of a string of unrelated driving offences and had his licence suspended five times.
Vincent Samuel George, 33, was fined $900 in Camden Local Court yesterday after he drove his B-Double in a non-permitted area and failed to keep proper records of driving and rest times.
The offences occurred at Camden in November last year. Court records also revealed that between 1998 and last year, George had his licence suspended five times and he has been convicted of 17 offences, including speeding and drink driving.
George was involved in a crash on the Hume Highway on January 24 when his B-Double crossed a grass embankment, crashed through a guard rail and ended up on the opposite side of the Menangle Bridge.
The truck then collided with a Ford Mondeo being driven by Calvyn Logan, 59, who had his parents, Donald and Patricia Logan, both 81, on board.
No charges have been laid in relation to the Menangle crash. Police are still awaiting the results of drug and alcohol tests taken from George after the crash.

This will most likely finish them…

Well if all those trucks have been tampered with, it’s probably a management policy to evade the law. And probably a good idea they’re put out of business, if their business practices are costing innocent people their lives.
