90 kph?

Tallyman i’m not suggesting this applies to you, but one thing for drivers who aren’t familiar with digi tachos to watch for…

on doing a print out you may well see over speed warnings… but look carefully at the date on them, they may not be from the day you drove it.

A company attempted to give me a lecture on collecting so many in one day, until i pointed this out to them!

And that from the guy who had been on the digi tach course!

David,

Like you I have abandoned England so it won’t be an issue, my Canadian licence is immune to Gatsos (can’t wait to get back & hire a car, he he) but I would only speed in an area that had clear lines of sight, bushes do not only hide camera weilding plod, they also hide children, animals, driveways etc so the chances are I would be doing less than 40 in those kind of surroundings anyway.

I’m talking about roads like the A roads in the Fens, the A303 etc, where it is safe to do 50mph & I mean safe to do the speed, not just safe from prosecution, when I say extra vigilence I mean in regards of road safety, the points issue should be irrelevant.

Er dont be so sure you’ll get away with it you’ll be surprised what can happen.
My son’s G/F father just had a letter from the law he’s in canada apparently if he comes back into the uk he will be arrested and have his licence revoked the canadian authorites have also been advised and he’s waiting for the outcome.

I’m sorry but i find that very hard to believe for a speeding offence, or even several. It just wouldn’t be worth while cost wise pursuing it.
Since when was anyone arrested just for speeding?

Now for something more serious such as a hit & run, possibly.

Since there became a lot more people driving in this country without a UK licence and using that fact to avoid speeding tickets and the likes .

My neighbour had similar he lives abroad a lot of the time, has a American licence, and thought it meant he had a licence to do as he pleased. Hammering it through speed cameras and total disreguard for the laws here thought he was untouchable.

Yeah if you go through a speed camera or two they won’t chase you but when your doing it all the time and basically taking the pee pee they will hammer you for it. He got a large fine and banned from driving in the UK.

And they definitely will come after you and arrest you if you are banned from driving right? :open_mouth:

I totally sympathise with Driveroneuk on this but I also understand the hourly paid point of view too, the thing is that a lot of people think that a speed limit is an instruction, it’s not, if it says 40mph then 40mph is as fast as you can go by law on that particular stretch, it doesn’t mean that you have to do it.

BUT, we live in the real world & like many others I would get frustrated if stuck behind somebody doing just under the limit, whether you will admit it or not, most of us exceed the speed limit, our extra vigilence & skill makes this a lot safer than the law would suggest & as long as it was safe to do so I would sit at 50mph in a 40mph limit.

So a simple solution is to be aware & show consideration to other road users, especially our lorry driving brethren, if you’re on hours & poodling along just under the limit, spare a thought for the bloke behind you who may be trying to get to your RDC to meet his 15 minute delivery slot so that he too can get home to see his family, if you get the chance to pull over & get out of his way, then please do so & to those who are going a bit over the limit, bear in mind that the bloke in front is in no rush, he’s just doing his job & we can all live happily ever after

HERE HERE…WELL SAID NEWMERCMAN

my post was tongue in cheek, but now i would like to add to that , I drive within the speed limits because i am a professional driver, & the speed limits are there for the protection of ALL road users. some would say that if you want to speed that’s up to you, well it aint cos you might lose control one day, when your doing 50 in a 40 and your stopping distance is out, & you panic cos we all do in certain situations, you gain sod all by edging that extra 1mph out. To add to that by speeding & pushing yourself to get to that drop on time, to get tipped, so that you can go and load again, to get going on to the next drop etc etc, is just making you stressed, not getting proper rest, not eating proper meals AWAY from the truck.

all so the fat boss can have his/her luxuries in life.

5mph faster over say 100 mile

1 truck at 50mph the other flat out at 55 mph gains 10 poxy mins!!!

rant over

Since the introduction of digitachos, does anyone have a truck fitted with such a device that can still actually achieve the full 90 kph (confirmed by sat nav) ? Most digitacho fitted coaches i’ve been on can only do 98 kph.

Yes and then some. Truck I was in was doing 94KPH and overtaking virtually everything. Lots of overspeed warnings though. Couldn’t care less because even though it records overspeed, the legal limit for a HGV in the UK on a motorway is still 60MPH/96KPH and I didn’t exceed that so they can kiss my [zb].

if you travel on the A361 north devon link road the speed limit is 40 mph which in my opinion is down right dangerous, as car drivers get frustrated and try overtaking you in the most dangerous places, i have seen so many near misses, and i have had to break hard and pull over to the verge to stop an impact! i now drive it at as near to 50 as i can it seems to stop the stupid action quite a bit but you always get one or two.
i haven’t been pulled by plod yet might get a problem if i took it much faster!
seen plenty of them but they just overtake and carry on so in my opinion they must be happy with my speed
