Tags can have problems coupling to some trailers and ride quality isn’t as good as a midlift but for anyone that does work that involves going off the Tarmac they are much better than a midlift.
Scania and Volvo are the most popular in this set up as it is popular in Scandinavia due to there weather nut I know daf and MAN offer it too.

so why do americans have 6x4 and aussie have 6x4 ?
That is the question. Think the argument all came down to saving a few bob on diesel in the end.
Or a simple sentence from one Charles Lindbergh can bring the thread back on track.
“We Americans are a primitive people.”
It serves to remind us of anti semitics, Kristallnacht, the Nazis and Pearl Harbour!
Blimey so the idea caused WW2 as well as using a bit of extra diesel.
Some say there was a plan to sabotage the US war effort by altering the drawings to a lifting tag axle on all Diamond T’s but it was foiled because no one at the factory could believe it.
Hi i drive quite a bit offroad onto grass fields.
I am surprised how well my FM12 does.like i read in an earlier post. The idea is to keep it rolling. If you stop ease away gently. Dont wory about a 6x4. The most critical component is the tires. You need good block treads so they clear easily. The only trouble is they are not so good on the road. Probably some of the better ones are what the landfill boys use. Check them out.

I went to Rygors the local Merc dealers today and was talking about 6x4’s and 6x2’s and tyres, the bloke reckoned mud and snow tyres for grip but a penalty on fuel and wear and merc dont do a tag lift, bugger.
They most certainly do! There were 2 sitting at my local merc dealer awaiting delivery before xmas, and I’ve seen it in the spec sheets for the actros (both rigid and tractor).

Well he said there are about 6 in the country, i am after something secondhand. And what small fuel tanks a 6x2 has.

He should have told you they make more noise too, I use to have drive tyres on the front, well drive pattern ss’s it steered well in the slop but made a racket on the road…
Tyres make a big difference, get some of those michelen grip ones. Taking an artic in to a field is never going to end well. You could try fitting some of those funky motorised snow chains, “rotos” or some such, might do the trick.
