6500 euro fine,in Spain

switchlogic:
Its posts like this that make me grateful I spend most of my time doing Italy! Been stopped 5 times, they just want card in head at which point they will try and fine you for speeding, 80kmh limit, when it becomes apparent you have no money they tell you to get lost or they just take what you do have. Well thats my experience anyway. (Fine is €390 btw)

i was wondering about this myself switch.
i did italy for years and now just do trips when required.
i havne had a pull in the last 3 years.
my memory is,when stopped by the polizia,10 or 20 thou lira would sort anything out.
is this history now?

Still the same, for now, the Italians still just want a few quid for speeding not much else. Very hot on overtaking bans though, big fine and 2/3 month ban from Italy.

well, this link dosn’t agree with such large fines.

that link did not have owt to say about fines related to the haulage industry.
I did explain to David that an appeal could be made and that it would have some chance of success, whether he goes down that road or not is up to him.

Vascoingles:
There are agencies who specialise (for a fee) in getting fines sorted and paid immediately and as a matter of procedure they automatically appeal each and every fine and are usually quite successful in getting them reduced and refunded, we uesd to get oicked on a lot until we started using an agent to appeal them and now we do not get so many of the dubious ones anymore.

Have you any information on the agencies?
Like do you pay an yearly subscription or can you just contact them if you get a fine?
Also have you any contact details for them?

http://spainlawyer.com/guialegal/:
Foreigners non-resident must pay on the spot unless they can present a Spanish bail bond or an address in Spain or company who will guarantee payment of the fine. If the fine cannot be paid or guaranteed, the vehicle will be impounded. Normally there is a discount of 30 percent for immediate settlement. You should pay the fine first, it is necessary for the policeman to permit you to continue your trip.

How do you get hold of bail bonds?
Can you use you fuel card to pay the fine?

The links to the spainlawyer would be the same help in the UK to a Portugese driver calling the AA legal line. As the fines in the UK for using a phone while driving, the penalties are higher for the HGV driver than for Doris on her way to the hairdressers while texting.

bail bonds no idea never needed one some fuel cards can be used for paying fines like DKV for example but tend to be very expensive

as I remember, we used to all have to carry bonds when going to Spain, I can’t remember how they worked though

Back in the mid 80’s when I started ‘doing’ Spain we had to have a green card which clearly stated cover was extended to Spain with ‘bail bond’ cover in case of a traffic accident.

Thanks for the information Vascoingles.
I’ve looked at the web-site and they seem to offer the service I was looking for, basically to get back on the move as quick as possible, I’ll contact them when I get back to work for more information. I was asking about bail bonds for the same thing, so no need to worry about that then.
