A place of [zb] spelling, for sure.

They reckon theres a wee guy with a funny haircut somewhere down Korea way thats lettin big fireworks off too

Well, seems almost a pity to further spoil a good old witch hunt, but as I drove the TGL again yesterday (which I hadn’t done for 3 days when I started this thread) i’m better able to add some much needed additional actual facts. During around 4 hours driving yesterday I got near to 2500rpm (actually 2350 /2400 rpm) on TWO occasions. Both times the engine was there for just a brief moment (maybe half a second) before I changed to a higher gear.

SO…

KTMrider:
Jump in the MAN each morning and (once the engine is up to operating temperature and I find myself in circumstances where I feel extra acceleration is called for such as a short slip road leading to a 70mph dual carriageway, THEN) typically I’ll bang it into 2nd spin it round to about 2 o’clock, then whizz it round to (NOT QUITE) 2 an half in 4th, flick the switch, straight into 6th, boot it again and now you’re already motoring (thanks to a slick fast changing gearbox, a usually lightly loaded 12 tonner and a 6.9 litre engine  ) . Plenty of grunt to surge past dawdling motorists and confidently merge from a sliproad with motorway traffic.

Would have been a more accurate statement.

scenario 1:

I hit circa 2400rpm in 6th at the end of a a very short sliproad leading onto a NSL DC before changing to 7th where the engine speed dropped to circa 1700rpm which is where the torque peak is, so in other words I had the engine in the optimum range for good acceleration which is what you generally want in that specific circumstance.

scenario 2:

I hit 2400rpm in 4th before changing to 6th (while lightly loaded on the flat) which almost halved the revs to 1300rpm, dropping me back into the bottom end of the tacho “green zone”.

And that was it folks.

Olog Hai:
It’s probably to mitigate the kind of driver who thinks that spinning the engine round to 2,500rpm before changing up is a good idea.

If I’m driving a TGL 12.250 and either performing a block gearchange from 4th to 6th, or coming to the end of a short slip road onto a fast flowing DC, I certainly think changing up at 2400rpm can be a good idea

I’m sorry but anyone who uses the terms…

Does not come across as a professional driver and should probably stick to nothing bigger or more lethal than a 50cc go-cart on a dedicated track.

blue estate:
Yep :open_mouth: how one hasn’t blown box engine clutch or combo of the 3 amazes me

the nodding donkey:
Before the rodent gets in.

It’s pricks like this, that give us all a bad name.

Chunkzilla:
It’s probably best he sticks to roller skates! I wouldn’t trust him near anything bigger!
I mean, would you stick him in an artic?!

So, got to admire all three of you guys for that merciless slagging before bothering to either establish facts or consider that you don’t actually know what you are talking about.

You’re all wasted on this forum - your obvious talent for accusation based on rumour, half truth, and superstition would have gone down well in medieval england. (or parts of present day Syria perhaps…)

Well in actual fact i’ve just part exed my 50cc go kart for an 80cc one, but I can see there is something in what you say.

My post was supposed to be a little light hearted, (let’s face it this forum is drenched in the p-take) and i was also exaggerating to contrast the fact that I like driving the TGL whereas I was perplexed by what a useless pile of carp the DAF was (not just compared to the TGL, but also when compared to the DAF & MAN 18 and 26t autos I’ve previously driven) when wanting to execute a safe slip road exit onto a motorway or NSL DC.

So, Reef, I take your point (or as Franglais says I need to be mindful of sense of humour failure). I bet your go kart is a full 100cc s
