24hr garages - why bother?

There is always the Two Ronnies sketch to get your own back as you stand at the window.

Can I have a bottle of coke?

No a small one!

Can I have a sandwich?

No a cheese one

Can you get me a Kit Kat?

No a chunky one

Can I have a packet of chewing gum?

No Spearmint

Can I have…?

By now the answer will be NO and you can be happy in the knowledge that he now has to put it all back on the shelf as you change your mind

always used to fill up at gonerby moor on a night, about midnight, only reason was i got to know lad in there and instead of giving me 1 or 2 of those moto-vouchers per fill up,he used to give me a book full now and then  ,used to have bookfulls at home, used to give my girl + mates a load and theyd get a burger-king on a night, same as if we went to bristol to visit, often used to get a free breckie at tamworth, havent been in for years now for diesel but kiosk was always open in those day,got done over a few times by locals,so thats why they put security screen up

Typical drivers expecting everything on a plate, go find the guy wondering on the forecourt and ask him (politely) if he wouldnt mind serving you for a minute.

Drop the attitude of entitlement, he has a job to do as well, and that probably involves emptying bins, doing the recycling, and restocking gloves/paper towels on the pumps during the quiet hours.

I visit the Shell garage at the top of the A34 every morning southbound around 5am. The guy is always busy doing other things, but you only have to ask him and he is with you.

What he doesnt like is people ■■■■■■ and blinding at him, banging on his windows, or coming at him with an attitude. Try seeing things from someone elses point of view, and you will learn the secret of how to get what you want with minimum conflict.

I see Lorry drivers every night at that place throwing a strop because they can’t get in to buy pies/defecate in his toilet/have to wait for pump to be authorised.

Just get a grip. They have a job to do, same as you, and your worries are of no concern to them.

you should count yourselves lucky. We have a Tesco 24 hour petrol station near us, (Tesco Formby) which closes at about 10pm and opens again at about 6am

I was fuelling up my coach late at night one night at the same garage we always do, walked upto the door but they wouldnt let me in but a police car turned up and they got let straight in to buy their munchies :smiling_imp:

Have to say i feel sorry for a lot of these guys that work at the stations,as i have said before my job is to deliver to them, the amount of ■■■■■ these people have to put up with from the public is unreal and yes all for about 6-7£ a hr .Yes some of them are complete ■■■■■ who need a kick up the back side but the amount of presure the shop workers are under from the management to sell stuff from the shop is mad.The reason most shops shut there door at night is due to thelocal yoof who cause trouble at night and rob the place blind, some of the garages i deliver to wont let us in if we are a bit late cause there scared to open up .

I used to be the site manager for 2 Repsol sites at one time and I’ve worked in probably 10 other non-Repsol sites as a normal til wallah. The job isn’t anywhere near as bad as your post suggests. It only seems to be Shell that does the hard sell with you are when visiting, I’ve never experienced it at any of the other garages.
