Pay as you go means spot hire, it’s nothing new. The boss loads you to London, the driver finds a phone box and rings a few numbers he has collected, he can load back home or take a load up Scotch, if the truck is earning, the boss is earning and he pays the driver according to the weeks earnings.
I found this bit quite interesting, basically it’s now a separate company paying to use the Eddie Stobart name, which is there is no deal could disappear in a couple of years.
Then there is the elephant in the trailer. He is in charge of one of the superbrands of British commerce and yet he is not. The words “Eddie Stobart” are owned by Stobart Group, its former parent, and the present licensing arrangement ends in 2020. Mr Laffey’s options are to continue paying £3 million a year to use the brand; to pay £15 million to use the brand in perpetuity; to pay £50 million to gain exclusive control; or to take the nuclear option and give up the brand. With its 2,500-strong fleet of Scanias and Volvos replaced every three years, he could migrate to a new brand — maybe iForce — by the early 2020s at no cost at all
“He has no problem getting people to work for Eddie Stobart, where the average driver’s age is 37. He is hiring dozens of people a year at 21 and older drivers can be migrated into warehouse and ecommerce work if they wish”
Its good that a company take on newbies, No argument. Is there though a problem with driver retention there? I
ve never been employed by them, so I`m only going off 2nd hand info, but if more experience on the road means you want to go into the warehouse…what does that say?
Maybe they need to “Re-invent themselves” some more?
He has no problem getting people to work but they set themselves up as a driving school…
Walk into any company that employs more than 10 drivers and you’ll see that most are aged 40+,tells you all you need to know that Stobrats average age is below this, people get wiser as they get older!
Aye Tim Fox jumped ship and they stripped him of his elf uniform at the main gate…he looks happy enough though…
Andrejs:
The Night Out Allowance is a tax-free allowance that represents a reasonable reimbursement of meals, washing facilities and upkeep of bedding in the cab. The tax-free allowances can be paid without the requirement to produce receipts; however, we advise that all proofs are kept. In line with the HMRC and the RHA this allowance can only be paid to a driver if a night out is spent more than 25 miles away from their normal place of work (Home Depot).
God i would love some of that for what i get, you must be on big night out money to get that much out of it, or your living in fantasy land

Clicking on the Stobart web site
eddiestobart.com/why-eddie-stobart/network
Then clicking on the Truckstop button on the bar it throws up a result of a stunning total of…
…wait for it…
…two…truckstops…
But also shows about 50ish road transport depots and 20 warehouses.
Can’t be arsed to read the article, but the 2 Truckstops will be Rugby and Carlisle, …and Stobarts (true to form) have ■■■■ ed up BOTH of them.
