180 days driving rule

waddy640:
If they have a digi card then that should confirm what they say.

I renewed mine a few months ago. Old one is in the bin.

BillyHunt:
Agencies have always been the same, when they need to fill a slot their rules go out the window.

Gets even better. Yorkshire Driving Services in Hull advertise some jobs as needing 180 days in the last 2 years and some not mentioning that at all. Like you say its all about rules going out the window when they need to fill a slot.

Harry Monk:
Some unscrupulous people might lie to the agency and tell them they have been driving consistently for the last 180 days, some particularly devious individuals right even read Commercial Motor to find out who’s gone bust lately, and pretend to the agency they’d been driving for them, in the knowledge that this information could not be verified either way.

Really would they ? i don’t believe it perish the very thought

That’s not much different to quite a few years ago, when you could lie about how long you held your licence, since they were “renewed” every 3 years when we had the little books,(didn’t they send a new sticker to put in it, or was that just the WMC, was a long time ago) was easy to say you had passed test 4 years previous, even though it was only a year, and then do Harry’s example to back it up!
My licence shows a pass date before '91, only me and DVLA knows when I actually passed the test.

So when I challenged this certain agency they took my details and said someone would ring me.Almost straight away I got a call from a guy who introduced himself as the head of driving for the UK.
The guy came across as an ok guy told me about his experience in driving ect… ect…,anyway I challenged him on this 180 days Insurance rule and told him that his company was breaking employment law by discriminating against the disabled.I made him aware that I was disabled and that I didn’t have 180 days experience in the past six months but I had 8 years solid of driving most kinds of trailers ect,I also told him that I had no CPC and that I didn’t agree with it the guy then said that he didn’t want any bad publicity for his Agency and that he would do me a favour and get me my CPC free of charge he could also get me driver training free of charge and that I could have a certificate at the end of the weeks training course. His office up here in Scotland said that if I didn’t get my CPC by September 2014 I would get no work, his office also said because i’ve left it so late they didn’t think I could achieve my CPC because there was a four week waiting list,I just rubbished that statement off.
Now this is what really ■■■■■■ me off,I am all for equality I want drivers to be treated the same all over the UK but after to different versions of the CPC with this Agency the head of driving said and I that he had an Army back ground and he looks after the boys coming out of the Army he could even offer these courses from my home here in Scotland because hes been in the industry so long that he has these type of contacts then he said that the real figure of 24000 driver shortage meant that he himself has to go into Europe and advertise jobs in the UK because he can’t get drivers to do the work here,so he brings in Europeans and sets them up.So much for equality because I have calculated that in order to take an Agency vacancy that I would need more than £8-9 per hour on a zero hour contract to support my family.
Come on drivers grow a pair and do what I’m doing stick up for our future and for our kids if thejobdosent pay then dont do it.PS I also have a mortgage and a family but just refuse to buckle to being forced into making a loss.
Respect.

How is he discriminating against disabled people by the 180 day rule if he applies it to everyone? How are you forced into making a loss when the choice is between £9/hr for at least 10hrs if you do a single shift or dole money?

Why do you think you should be treated specially just because you’ve been in the army? The majority of drivers are ex-forces. Being in the army and being injured during service is nothing special in this industry. Using it to try and gain special favours will just see you ostracised.

Also full stops, heard of them? Makes things easier to read.

Why are you playing the disabled card?
The fact you don’t have you DCPC in itself is enough for any agency/employer to say thanks but no thanks. That has nothing to do with disability, nor does a lack of recent driving experience.
To be honest, if thats the type of stunt you pull at the first hurdle, if I was in his position I’d be worried about sending you into clients because of what else you may try and twist and manipulate.
I have upmost respect for anyone who has served in the armed forces but at the same time I can’t abide people who think things should be handed to them on a plate.

I wonder if we will ever hear how RustySpring actually gets on. What he posted sounds like a complete load of old cobblers to me.

maybe you should say, I have been on agency work for the last 2 years and the chance of receiving180 days work from those toe rags is nearly impossible
