Highway hypnosis

I always thought…

This was a thing. Having driven past motorway junctions, failing to remember where the last ten miles went and watching other drivers pile into stationary traffic in broad daylight.

I call it being asleep with your eyes wide open.

From the few articles I’ve read, it appears there’s almost nothing drivers can do to combat it.

I always found reading a good book whilst driving keeps me alert.

Pornhub does for me.

That or cooking a fry up. Full English obviously…

I’m not so sure that saying you can’t combat it is correct though.
.
Saying that we aren’t perfect and there will always be times we ■■■■-up, is no reason to say we can do nothing.
.
We can all do things to (try to) avoid boredom, or zoneing out, or whatever, but being human we will never succeed 100%, tis true.
We can combat it. But won’t ever be completely successful.

I don’t remember it being so bad in the UK because I think there was mostly traffic and stuff going on around to keep me focused. You should try driving on some of the highways over here though.

A good spotify account and audiobooks work well although it is best to have stuff downloaded because there is often not do much internet data coverage in the most remote areas.

Try cooking an Indian curry from scratch, it takes hours and there’s loads of recipes on youtube, it keeps me entertained when I’m bored on the road.

Much better than driving on a motorway, at least you have stunning views and scenery, looks great

A polite way of saying “not paying attention” or “short attention span”.

What about the poor sod that has to paint the lines. He must have to go back to the depot for a new tin of paint every half hour, not to mention brushes.

Bugger the paint and brushes, what about the poor ■■■■■■■■■ back?

You are assuming it’s not a concrete road then?
.
Maybe the Gov have mates who make black paint?

I know it’s not concrete, Franglias. No government here has friends.

Stopping to set up the dartboard on the nearside door and have a game of arrows - leaning across to retrieve them is a challenge but it sharpens the mind, it’s more complicated on the left hand bends.

And thats where the self driving truck works…

In the UK…good luck!!

Does the self driving truck lose its no claims bonus when its cut up by nobhead car drivers at every motorway junction.
