Anyone on nights for the first time in their career?

Marky-p:
I previously did nights from 2002 to 2017 but it was mixed in with earlies and lates in the same week and my body never got a chance to adapt. I may be starting a Class 1 role soon doing full time nights for the first time ever.

Just curious if anyone has started doing full time night shifts for the first time (I.e 10pm to 7am) and how quickly you adapted.

Adaptation will obviously vary from person to person but how was it for you?

I worked in my previous job on nights for over 3 years, but that was forklift driving.

It always took me around two weeks to switch from day to night.

The things that you should consider going on nights are:

-Tiredness on the road before you switch your body clock to night time.
-Sleeping in the daytime- nobody cares if you’re asleep, so it’s more noisy(depends where you live) and it’s generally harder to fall asleep, and even if you manage it’s not the same sleep that you’ll have in the night.
-Roadclosures- most of roadworks on major roads are done during night, so you must be more careful.
-Headlight dazzle
-Visibility around you

I don’t know what else to add, but hope it will help you with making decision.
