I feel your ire, Rob. I dropped my short-lived URTU membership about 13 years ago, when they appeared to do SQR(FA) to help when a bunch of us were facing the prospect of redundancy during TUPE “negotiations”. The only people who appeared to be looking out for us drivers were the TM and another manager. I had already looked at their Ts&Cs in respect of legal assistance and decided they were likely to be as much use to me as a chocolate teapot if I was in trouble in that regard. As far as our rep was concerned, the main point of their scheme was to give a grant towards the cost of any speeding tickets (you’d only get actual legal assistance if you looked likely to be facing a ban!).
