Old Runcorn bridge

The old runcorn bridge has been refurbished painted and is due to reopen this weekend.
How ever it’s been converted into. A toll one now

Is it being run by the same mob as the other and can we use it with the Merseyflow Tags ? :bulb:

No idea.
Just saw a piece on northwest news this morning
They said it reopens this weekend and will be a toll bridge.
They then shown a video clip of it with its new tarmac and looks like it’s 1 lane each way
Other lane looks like it’s a cycle and pedestrian lane

No Hgv’s on it, you have to use the new one. It’s for local traffic & buses apparently.

They’ve changed it now, same tolls as the new bridge. Originally it was supposed to be a 7.5t limit when it reopened but not anymore.

I’ve just had a walk over it and it’s open to all vehicles. Same charge as the new one, can use the same tags on it.

I take it, then, that you’re not referring to the OLD Runcorn bridge, ie the transporter bridge?

I wonder how many on here can remember that!

I did correct myself after I’d posted that.

I can remember it working , never had need to use it but Derbyshire Stone drivers used it empty back from the Liverpool area , probably just for the thrill .

The transporter bridge at Middlesbrough is still in use for cars and pedestrians. My mates and i used to climb up the steps on the legs and race the bogie along the top when we were kids.No access now.Too many diving into the Tees.
Even younger still lots of men used to board paddle steamers near the bridge and be dropped off at various riverside industrial sites or to work on the "Hoppers"which used to pull alongside dredgers to fill up with river sludge and venture out into the North Sea to dump the load.My grandad was captain of TCC no.2 and let me travel with him.No chance of that with H.and S.nowadays.

The transporter bridge in Middlesbrough has been closed for about 15 months now Gidders, they were saying in the local press a couple of weeks ago that it may not reopen, could just become a ‘historical monument’

i thought barry oz bomber etc pulled that down years ago. and rebuilt in in america so some native american indians could get punters to there casino

Mizzo. Thanks for the info.It was working last time I was in the Boro and operated by Cleveland Transit, the local bus company,at one time.Yet another childhood memory gone.

Newport, Wales transporter bridge is, I think, the only one still operating in the UK.

I’ve seen pictures of it! I’m not actually that old…

Sorry Mutley. They were at one point talking about max 7.5, but then again they have talked every permutation you can think of.

Oi , I resemble that remark , I am that old ! I shall sit and dribble in protest so there .

Not surprised it’s toll, nobody would use the new one if it wasn’t.
