Side Facing Seat In Rear Of Half Cab Truck

Good Evening Everyone,

I work for a company that uses half cab trucks which have been retro fitted with passenger side facing seats which sit directly behind the driver.

My issue is that these lorry’s are now required to be driven on the roads and motorways and have either no seatbelts in the rear or a very poor lap belt.

I have done some research on my own into the law around these types of seats and if they should have a seatbelt or not and I believe its advised that they should not have a seatbelt due to it possibly causing you more damage in the event of an accident and that the DFT advise that whilst sideways seats are not illegal they advise against the use of them.

My question is that if I don’t feel safe traveling in the back of said vehicle do I have a case that I can take to my employer as whilst I’m not saying I wont do my job I’m saying I feel unsafe doing it!

I hope that makes sense and would appreciate any feedback.
