O License Exemption

Hi All,

Just a quick one as I can’t find any definitive answer on google. My company is looking at purchasing an 8x4 Axle 32T Tipper Chassis.

The use would be purely for shunting goods from one of our sites (Private land) to our other site (Also private land). The two sites are next door but the vehicle would very briefly touch a public highway for approximately 200 yards. This would only be done once or twice a day.

Would we need an operators license for this and any specific insurance, or would this be covered as per our other mobile plant?

Cheers

Looks like you’re in luck. I’d suggest you would want to keep a record of these on road excursions to back up your right to an exemption.

Exemptions
You do not need a goods vehicle operator’s licence if your vehicle:
…is using public roads for less than 6 miles a week whilst moving between private premises belonging to the same person as the vehicle (if the vehicle’s used for excavation or demolition it does not matter who it belongs to)

Just adding a link for what Zac says.
