Past Present and in Between in Pictures

Remember when going scotch (if from the south), or going down to the smoke (if from the north), was long distance?
When Middle East work was readily available?.
When driving a 111 or F89 meant you were truly the king of the road?
Recall those companies long gone, where every day was an adventure?

What ever happened to those drivers you spent hours with.. where did they go? and recollect on those characters in the industry sadly no longer with us.
This forum is for us all to indulge in a little nostalgia and remember with rose coloured glasses how much better it was in the olden days

Nowadays, with racism being apparent and commonplace, I wonder what some characters
would say regarding the writing and painting on the rear of this Bedford ?.
Picture from Bootle Times Forum.

I am surprised that the Mods haven't already removed this shot Ray as it has been on for over an hour----- must have caught them napping Mate !

A Bedford artic tanker from about 1949. I cant quite decide if the trailer is attached to
the Bedford with a 5th wheel coupling, or is it a Scammell-Hitch type coupling.
I found this picture on the Bootle History Forum.

Possibly the fastest speed that it has ever travelled at Dan! I used to pass him going out of Baslow, tip tarmac at Olive Grove depot and meet him still trundling down into Sheffield when on my way back empty.

Another picture from Bootle History Forum. Some of us Trucknet members may remember Hunters Foods products.
The only one that I can remember was a tin of what we called " Luncheon Meat ". With regard to the Hunters vans,
I know that the 3 Wheeler was a Reliant, but I cant identify the bigger van. Hunters large food factory was in the
Broadgreen area of Liverpool near Bowring Park Road, where nowadays is the last 500 yards of the M62, between
Queens Drive flyover and Broadgreen railway station.

I would think it would have been the Scammell Coupling back then, I could just make out the trailer guide wheels sitting on top of the ramps plus no landing legs on the trailer and the front end sits low into the Bedford chassis a 5th wheel would make it sit higher. Good photo though. Franky
