We tend to forget, well I do, that when they first appeared on the market Minis weren’t called Minis. I can’t remember how the change came about or when, was it public pressure and usage or from a bright spark at the factory?

But look at that purchase tax, nearly 50 %, and we moan at VAT today.

David, I remember when the MInis were introduced, 1959,I think. The Austin was called " Austin Seven " as
posted by Buzzer, The Morris version was called a " Morris Mini Minor ". Cheers, Ray Smyth.

I do too, and I have always loved minis. But the early ones were pretty disastrous as BMC had managed to make a mistake in the body assembly resulting in water leaks in to the car. But they eventually got it sorted . Subsequent competition in rallies and racing raced the car’s profile and it become extremely popular.
