This location is Walton Lane in Liverpool in the early 1960s The Liverpool Corporation bus is a
Leyland PD2 on route 44D to Kirkby on the outskirts of Liverpool. The construction work on the
right is building a second railway bridge so that Walton Lane can be developed into a dual
carriageway. Also , just to the right of the picture is a large Police Station built in later years.
About half a mile to the rear of the cameraman in Goodison Park, Everton football ground.

Sadly, close to the right of the picture, it is where 2 year old James Bulger was murdered on
the railway line by 2 ten year olds in early 1993.

A coincidence that you should mention James Bulger’s murder a few days before Venables comes up for a parole hearing.

I cannot hear or see James’s name mentioned without being deeply affected. At the time our son was the same age as the two murderers, and the happy little 2 year old boy a couple of doors down was the spitting image of poor little James. A few years earlier my wife had had a scare in a shopping centre when our 3 year old daughter suddenly wasn’t by her side and nowhere to be seen for about a minute.
