I always kick my card out at night on land, to prompt Begin or End Country entries, but leave it in on ferries.You can prompt that even when leaving your card in my friend. I never leave these shores but leave my card in all week. End country at end of shift and begin country at start of shift too.
I know you can enter it without ejecting it, but I have sometimes omitted to do so in the past. Having the card ejected shows at a glance that I must have done it as part of my routine.
It’s nothing to do with my memory and advancing years.
