Ok fellow Truckers

Good chance that it was, thou “Rig” would have been ( a lot shorter ) being minus the trailer…

PS: before anyone ask’s, backing up is a nightmare…

You’ll get used to it, just nice and slow and small movements, and when you’re going straight back, just keep steering slightly left and right, otherwise they bugger off on their own

Thanks for the tip waynedl

waynedl:
just nice and slow and small movements, and when you’re going straight back"

Im not looking for any Prizes for skillful reversing with this rig

I have the option of droping the trailer & hooking it up on the cab end if necessary
( for the tricky stuff )

Your suggestion of

waynedl:
steering slightly left and right

I will try if Im ever forced to backup any distance, Thanks for that.
The trailer is acually slightly narrower than the 12tonner on the front end :exclamation:

With the exception of a few local movements:
Next time the Rig is due out to travel any distance is in a Fortnight,

Looking forward to reading the Spotters reports.

Might need some help thou, trailer is a showmans trailer ( 3400 Kg ) not easy to man-handle :exclamation:

I don’t know if it’s a legal requirement, but I was always under the impression that when towing a trailer, you were supposed to be able to see it in your mirrors?
Reversing a drawbar trailer will be more difficult if you can’t see your trailer until it’s moved into your line of sight,so reversing in a straight line will need more than “a few small movements”.Your describing reversing it as “a nightmare” is not surprising.

The good news is, Running directly ahead
you can see (apox) 50% of the near side & 90% of the off side.

This Trailer doesnt run quite true ( to center ), nothin uncommon.

Trick with this ■■■■■, is start back, with an intital Right-Hand down twich.

Then Keep it balanced in the mirrors using slow corrections

& She go straight back for a good distance ( spot on waynedl ).

Problem starts if you want to do more than a gentile( 30deg’ish )turn :exclamation:

Good news is, I able to hook her to the front end if necessary
which is much easier, if I need to get her into a tight pitch

Regarding what " ERF man" said

Unhitch it and shove it in its nae bigger than yer average caravan. Eddie.

If Im lucky, the Team of extemely fit young fellows from USN will be waiting to greet me…

being a darn site fitter & healther than me,
they are only too keen to show off there mussel, energy, strenght & vigour

Im not looking for any " excelent reversing " prize’s, just to get the trailer into position safely :exclamation:

See you out there, and yes, Eddie, this rig wil be up in Scotland latter in the year :exclamation:

Think what I should have said is, Because of the pospective & distance involved,
While going backwards, its not easy too see that the trailer is going wayward
until its marking its way off to such an extent, that a large correction is required. :unamused:
