Look at my big red tool :-)

Well I’ve waited flippin’ ages for this day.

With the LEZ looming and my current old 6 wheeler a very shagged out W reg we’d been eding closer to ordering a new vehicle. I think I’d managed to swing the verdict to an FMX with a 400 engine (day cab  ) but with dog’s ■■■■■■■■ Andover Trailers body built to my specification :sunglasses: Only downside was that the boss was proposing to remove, refurb and refit my 10 year old Cormach 19t/m crane to new vehicle.

Then whilst looking at Auto Trader online I found more or less what we wanted at Scania Purfleet (usually anything remotely usable is about 300 miles away) Details were printed off and presented to the boss although I was sure that it would surely be too expensive, not carry enough weight, didn’t have a day cab or some other reason to deep six the whole idea. In fairness the phone was in his hand and he wasn’t put off by the price. We took a quick trip down to Purfleet to find a very tidy motor, 75,000kms and sparkling in silver and grey.
Personally I’d have kept the silver and just done the red but I’m not complaining.

It’s got the 3 pedal Opticruise (which is a bit odd) with retarder, and lots of other toys in the cab which compared to my old short cabbed series 4 P is huge. I even found a fridge :sunglasses:

I’d just got it back to the yard this afternoon with a view to exploring the crane and they decided we need a bucket picking up down the road. As first loads go it’s a very lame affair but it gave me a chance to try the crane away from watchful eyes.

Usual Danbury markings to be applied at some stage.

Any good tips for cleaning up the Alcoa wheels?

So you can at last call yourself 8 wheels

Very nice, enjoy it.

It’s only been 4 years or so since I last had an 8 :unamused:

And he tells his missus size lies too! Shoulda held out for the FMX, that looks the mutts!

Nice motor, bit of an upgrade

Always wondered though, on some R-Series rigids, why is the top of the grill cut short in comparison to the artics, I always assumed same cabs/engines etc, anyone shed some lights onto this?

dont like the look of that old style front, much prefer the look of our NEW 60 REGS,but i suppose beggars cant be choosers

Nice motor, do yourself a favour though, we had two of these brand new in 2006, get that front under bumper off, on some of the sites we were picking up from they wouldn’t have lasted 5 minutes. It can always be put back on at a later date

Stunning motor there 8 wheels, a good result. Wish you many happy and safe km in her.

Stunning motor, I can only wish for a truck like that. I drive a 53 plate Iveco. Happy trucking in her.

tidy little bus that pal the load bed looks a little bit short though

Nice truck.
the grill is cut short to make a flat surface on the front for your sign writing.

Ah thanks for that, I’ve never really seen many artics with the shorter grill so got me wondering

Appearances are deceptive the body is 27’6" long same as the last two I’ve had, that means that I can just squeeze on 2 Postman Pat vans or a pair of Unimogs.

Whilst I was keen on the FMX as it looks amazing, this was a now or never opportunity to get some rocking horse ■■■■. Let’s not forget that I’ve had the last 9 months driving this old nail.

Which has got much worse in the 3 years since that pic was taken.

In our company transport has been given about the same priority as cleaning the office for the last few years, I’m amazed and astounded I’ve got this. Very happy too so I’m not looking for faults thank you

As this vehicle can carry 95% of our plant that means that I’ll only have to drive the lowloader when the driver is and we need to move a 20 tonner. We’ve got an R480 unit coming soon so even that won’t be so bad (although being a '56 plate will be a come down  )

nice looking motor that. it not properly yours until you’ve dented it… :smiling_imp:

At least you have gained a bedroom

Doh, ignore last post I didn’t see the crane

No you are right. I had the sleeper cabbed 6 wheeler for nearly 4 years, tidy motor with a 420 underneath and pulled like a train. Only since September since I’ve had the crane. The cab is so jammed full of stuff the passenger footwell is up to the bottom of the passenger window!

Can’t wait to move house tomorrow.

nice tool big boy , shame about the Scania badge though

Yeah shame about the Scania badge but it does look the buisness, as far as a plant lorry goes they don’t come much better than that enjoy Daz

very smart mate, too true about removing the underbumper, the first thing i got our fitters to do was whip it off my new motor as .i didnt want to explain why I’d ripped the front off the new motor to the MD if it had still been on given some of the places they expect generators to be dropped

like the baby hiab btw
