Tesla Semi - delivering failure since 2017

youtube.com/watch?v=o3dCDNI … hunderf00t

Apparently it can only carry around 6 tonnes of cargo (on US roads) but hey, it has wireless charging

Even its design seems already obsolete - it still has ‘‘old’’ style mirrors where as in the real world mirrorless looks to be here to stay. And still not in production 4 years after it was supposed to be

Put a Stoneridge Tacho in them and supply a box of matches on delivery.

Be fair, it has CAD designed cup holders, that has to be worth something

That 6t is not quite how the media release about the ~Semi on the 1st Dec put it… about 20t payload.

US tons, not metric tonnes so it’s even worse than it sounds. It’s 18 metric tonnes and we have rigids in the UK with higher payloads than that.

The yanks are worried about jobs but he’s right…

According to Elon Musk the truck on the 500 mile journey was running at 82,000 lbs, the unit is speculated to weigh about 27,000 lbs and according to Google a 53’ semi-trailer would be about 10,000 lbs to 12,000 lbs so a total vehicle weight of lets say around 39,000 lbs, leaving a payload of around 43,000 lbs or 21.5 US tons, 19 imperial tons or 19.5 tonnes.

How did we manage before Google

Is anyone actually surprised at this mahoosive white elephant?

Meanwhile vast tracts of the earth are raped and turned into desolate wastelands in the never ending search for lithium.

Does anyone still have a four year old smartphone with the original battery?

no yes and yes.

Not surprised in the least, bods getting loads of wonga playing with big boys toys, beats the hell out of a days work.

But its green, the David and the BBC told us if we didn’t do this the world would end, Al Gore speaking from his private jet flying between his various mansions said the ice caps will be gone in 2013 or summat like that. However it does keep 10 year old boys out of mischief digging in the earth to keep the scam going.

Over 4 year old CAT S41 built like a brick outhouse and the battery still lasts around 4 to 6 times longer than my Mrs’ iphone thingy which can’t hold onto a call when it isn’t flat, the company issued smart phone being a bad joke, battery’s as crap as the phone :unamused:

Looking at the list of this youtuber’s videos, he seems to have something personal against Elon Musk. Why is that?

Makes me want to question his credibility when he shows so much hatred towards Elon.

If you watch the video I posted the Tesla is carrying less than 6 tonnes while Musk is saying it’s overtaking a diesel lorry uphill ‘‘at full load’’ so either he’s lying about it being at full load in the video or he’s lying about the actual max payload

CF ■■?

I do still…

Possess a Samsung s10 with it’s original battery. It’s in full working order. I only changed to go 5g with an s20.

Mr Musk is no different to an old time wild west hustler selling snake oil to inbred villagers who can’t read or write.

There will be no Tesla truck pulling 25 tons of steel over the Pennines in my life time.

Unless there is a MASSIVE change in battery and motor technology the LAWS of thermo dynamics wont be breached. We cant get more energy out of a machine than we put in. Sir Issac Newton discovered those laws of motion a very long time ago.

Ooh…

Looks familiar. Ford big red gas turbine truck.

Fail.

The figures don’t add up.
1 litre of diesel contains around 12 kWh a turbodiesel is around 40% efficient call it 5kwh.
10kg of batteries stores around 2kwh = 200 kWh per tonne ?.
As opposed to 500 kWh per 100 litres or around 22 gallons of DERV.
By those figures you’ll need 2t of batteries to do the same work as 20 gallons of diesel.
The Scandinavian type drawbar outfit is the solution to that type of energy density problem in which the prime mover is a dedicated battery hauler and locomotive package. An artic won’t cut it.

There is a guy - Doggfite - in the comments who explains why the actual payload is around 38,000lbs, still not great and consider recharging I am not sure it is a viable semi?

Surely the electric revolution can’t have flopped once again?

That’s even before taking into account the equivalent of £2.50 per litre + fuel duty and 20% VAT to charge it.
