Assessment drive with another company

So guys this seems it could be an awkward one. After every shift we download our digital cards, and the office keeps tracks of our driving hours and to check for infringements.
Let’s just say you go for an assessment drive with another company, your current company can find out. This kinds of puts us drivers in an awkward position, especially if we don’t get the job or decide we don’t want to take it.

In pretty much every other profession, if someone is looking for another job, they can discreetly go for an interview and no one need ever know.

What’s everyone’s advice or thoughts on this matter?

Not this rubbish again. An employer cannot stop you looking for or attending an interview for another job but they can specify that it is done in your own time. If they make your job difficult for doing so you can take them to a tribunal for it.

People need to get a grip with this crap, tell your employer you are going for another job, if they do try to make things difficult then they are not worth working for in the first place.

Nobody in other jobs hides the fact they are going for another job, if the company value you then they will ask what they can do to keep you if not then again they are not worth working for in the first place.

This is the exact reason why most drivers have no backbone and don’t stick together.

Drivers are scared to ask for time off for a job interview and assessment, the only time a company will be arsey if you haven’t told them and not made sure it is done to account for tacho regs.

What you do in your own time is your business no one else’s, but using your card for an assessment has to be done correctly to avoid falling foul of tacho regs.

Exactly this.
@ o/p…Why do you even care what the firm thinks :unamused: , they don’t own you and you certainly ain’t the first driver to leave.

It’s obvious you want to leave said company otherwise you wouldn’t be going for an assessment drive.
So go they can’t sack you for it as long as it’s withing tacho rules .
Might cause an issues if you go off sick to attend it…
But just go for it. Ok they might give you some long/rubbish runs to do. As places are childish like that…if you don’t go for an interview/ assesment your be stuck on same.job for ever really

Your digi card belongs to you, not the company who currently employ you. As long as you aren’t in breach of any regulations there are no legal ramifications. If the company you currently work for value you and are forward looking then instead of attempting to chastise you it would be in their interests to actually speak to you, ask you why you are thinking of leaving and maybe, just maybe they will offer you a more attractive package to stay with them.
