How do you lower the top deck on a double decker?

How do you lower the top deck on a box fridge double decker?

Never used one before, take it its fairly straight forward?

I’ve not used one for maybe 20 yrs , isn’t there a control box on the outside

Depends but normally it’s x2 buttons, a safety one you have to keep your finger on and the down button.

Just make sure there’s nothing in the way like straps/ cups for bars etc…

Plug in anderson lead. Make sure theres no cups or straps still attached to the bottom deck and its empty, also check nothing has moved back on the swan neck to foul the deck moving. If on a dock, lift the ramp off, hold “safety button” and “deck down button” at the same time. Deck will usually bleep and have a flashy light to show its going down.
If taking off the back with a fork lift push “change panel” button and there is sometimes a wander lead in a box usually on near side under the rear chassis, press deck down button on that. Other trailers may be able to reach buttons from the ground so same as a dock.

What Fuzrat said but also some deckers have a 10 second delay before the deck starts to come down.

Couldn’t whoever…

If they don’t and you crush someone or yourself, it will be down to them because you are not trained.

Ten second delay?
Enough time for an untrained person to wonder what’s wrong? And stick their fingers in the gap to free the mechanism?

Not really, because in order to reach the mechanism one would have to release the big button that moves the deck first.

Thanks.
Bit clearer image in my mind now.

Safety button and deck down or up buttons are placed the furthest apart on the panel and have to be held simultaneously so have to be operated with 2 hands. Only way you can drop deck and have a spare hand is with the wander lead. You have to press the change station button to activate wander lead and if working correctly when you release the down button on the lead it changes back to the main panel. lift off halfway down and you have to hit the changeover button again to reactivate it.

Not all deckers have wander leads, i know the asda ones do generally.
Royal mail ones don’t but they do have a manual re- set button? RM also have batteries to power the deck built into them.
They are charged by a 3 pin plug from the engine but also have an Anderson to plug in if needed.

There’s a very short delay in the deck moving on the RM ones also, but not like the asda crap that makes your fingers hurt before the ■■■■■■■ thing starts to move

Get some one to show you how to first. DONT TRY THIS AT HOME scenario. If it goes wrong it goes very wrong.

It might be a fixed deck, only way then would be an angle grinder… :smiling_imp:

Why do Royal Mail use fridge vans?

For all the unsolicited ‘cold calling’ mail they shove through your letterbox. :open_mouth: :stuck_out_tongue:
