Trailer plating

Morning all.

Hope you are all well.

Can anyone tell me if a VOSA issued trailer plate is required to be displayed on the chassis of the trailer if a metal manufacturer one is currently present?

Ive had a bit of a dig and cant find a definitive answer.

Cheers

Plating cert supersedes the manuf plat, amongst other things, that’s how and why you can downrate a trailer.

I think they need to be registered with vosa before it’s allowed on public roads.

At our place if there’s no VOSA plating certificate on a trailer then it doesn’t go out on the road, it’s treated legally the same as the one in the unit. The manufacturer’s plate is irrelevant for day-to-day running.

As far as i know you’re okay to take it on the road without it as long you let your fleet or whomever is reaponsible for that, know that it’s missing. That’s what i have been told.
