Cars and tech are also a lot cheaper also.

Ironically the Triumph would now be worth around 10x as much as when it was new.In large part because it isn’t fitted with all the electronic control freakery that makes many modern cars an economic write off before they reach 10 years old let alone 50.
Best of the bunch being the mechanically injected 2.5 manual with overdrive with values to prove it.

I noticed it didn’t have traction control.

It’s just a cheap inferior substitute for a Salisbury limited slip differential which could be fitted to the old Triumph if required. But was standard on Jags.

These were company cars for the Directors where I worked when they were first available: the fuel injection was not reliable on the early models, the TR sports models had the same issues.

To be fair most of the issues in the day, caused by what was effectively a prototype system being tested in service, have been sorted by specialists now.
While for us working class home tuners a set of triple Weber’s was the go to option if/when the Lucas PI went rogue.

That amount in 1978 would buy you a 5 bedroomed house and a rolls royce on it’s driveway.

The latter amount today - would barely buy you a 2 bedroomed terraced with a Kia parked outside in the road on a permit…
