Substitute amazon worker for any warehouse worker, driver, any menial job really

I was thinking just the other day that it is surprising that large companies that sell pretty much everything, such as Amazon (although many similar companies exist) are not yet reverting to the system that many slave-owning business (and others, I think some coal mines) operated in the past. That is paying their workers in “scrip”. Scrip was simply coupons or tokens only redeemable at the company store. Thus slaves or workers were locked in to the company. Perhaps there are laws preventing it. In which case are there any political lobbyists at work to change that?
