Speed limits to be enforced in Wales

Environmental Speed limits in several 50mph zones on major roads in Wales will be enforced from Monday, October 4.

People caught exceeding the speed limit could receive a letter or in the most serious cases, a fine.

The areas where enforcement will begin are:

A494 Wales/England border to St David’s Interchange in Deeside
A483 Junction 5 to Junction 6 in Wrexham
A470 Upper Boat Interchange to Bridge Street Interchange in Pontypridd
M4 Junction 41 to Junction 42 in Port Talbot

M4 J41 to J42 is already enforced, unless those cameras have not been switched on, and the signs lied.

From what I’ve read they’ve only been advisory but will become active on the 4th October. I see that the new £336million A465 heads of the valleys dual carriageway is going to get a permanent 50mph too

Oh for f zake… it’s just a money maker. When its quiet (like at night) crawling along at 50 just prolongs your time spewing noxious fumes, and half the time, the stretch from Margam to Llandarcy is at a crawl anyway. And the M4 is the least of their worries, pollution wise, anyway.

As for the Heads of the Valleys route, why?? It’s almost all along rural hill tops… the only estate next to it is the Gurnos estate. If you improve the air quality from the A465, the denizens of Gurnos will have to buy more knockoff Ukranian Lambert & Butlers…

These new Jenoptik SPECS average speed cameras will be introduced on the roads of Wales to reduce air pollution. airqualitynews.com/2021/10/04/w … d-cameras/

There’s currently a 50 limit on the M4 between 45 & 46. So now you need to drop another gear to get up the hill - more revs = more exhaust = more pollution. Not to mention noise.

Yes, it’s all rather banging your head against a brick wall frustrating as I’ve found when going to visit my eldest son who moved to Bridgend earlier this year. The citizen’s who devise these rules are really off the scale clueless.

They could have a chap sat behind a desk somewhere monitoring the sensors at road networks with inclines & change road speeds accordingly when pollution levels rise :open_mouth: These new AQMesh air quality monitors which can be specified to monitor a single gas or up to 6 gases, as well as PM, noise and wind speed & direction all from a single unit. Measures gases NO, NO2, O3, CO, SO2, H2S and TVOC using the latest generation of electrochemical sensors.
CO2 monitoring with a NDIR sensor offering real-time localised air quality information and data analysis to the cloud.

Measures particulates PM1, PM2.5, PM10, TPC and TSP (up to 30 microns) with a light-scattering optical particle counter
Noise monitoring with an omnidirectional microphone & a meteorological sensor for wind speed and direction measurement.
