High electricity & gas prices!

Stand by for sky high energy prices! The EU ETS (emission trading system) is at a record high this week, Carbon prices rose above €60 for the first time on Monday setting a new record on the EU ETS, the bloc’s carbon market. This had a knock-on effect on electricity prices which also hit record highs reaching £140/MWH .“Higher CO2 prices mean that electricity producers have to spend €billions on compliance costs :open_mouth: The UK’s ETS is even more expensive with a flat floor €18/MWH on top of the EU ETS amount, Most of our energy companies are still owned by European companies and at this high ETS carbon price Coal powered power stations will not be able to compete in Germany & all east European countries, Even gas powered power stations will be toast in 3-4 years at this rate as they wont be able to compete with high compliance costs & according to the men in suits the ETS is working just fine to decarbonise the fossil fuel energy sector :open_mouth: . euractiv.com/section/emissi … 60-record/

Could you possibly start a post that’s not how hideous life is going to get in the green utopia with an exclamation mark please :unamused:

European roulette.Place your bets.Which European state will have the first and last massive nuclear disaster and which can hold out the longest without breaking its population by energy costs and which will be the first to exempt themselves.( I’m going with UK or France, Germany and Poland respectively ).

Reports today that the UK have fired-up (literally!) a coal-powered power station to meet electricity consumption due to the price of gas and lack of wind to keep the windmills spinning. I guess there is a plan…somewhere but not, apparently, in the UK.

At this rate it will bring Hydrogen technology into contention much quicker as it will work out cheaper than the energy companies paying €billions in compliance costs for using fossil fuels, Maybe this was their plan all along.

How many kwh of electric required to produce 1kwh of hydrogen and how much per kwh for the finished product.
‘Compliance costs’ which no one can afford to pay and who takes the cash.

The UK is still trying to flesh out the deal with the EU regards clean hydrogen production. At present hydrogen production is still too expensive even using the cheapest natural gas to produce hydrogen with CCS (carbon capture system) Blue hydrogen will have a carbon tax tariff on it, It might possibly be cheaper than what energy companies are paying out in compliance costs in the coming years.
Britain will join Horizon Europe as an associate country, like Switzerland, Norway and 14 other non-EU countries. In exchange, the UK will contribute around €2 billion per year to the programme’s budget.
They want to do away with natural gas & use that underground pipework infrastructure to move hydrogen gas around countries/continents including the UK.
I don’t think they were kidding when they said this transition to clean energy will be more of a disruption than the first industrial revolution was :open_mouth:

The truth is hydrogen can’t replace fossil fuel use and the scam can only mean massive and unnaffordable dependence on nuclear and biomass generated electricity.
The former has equally massive safety risks and the latter means burning living trees with the loss of all of their future photosynthesis activety instead of long dead ones.
All so that ‘someone’ can make a lot of money out of handing over our fossil fuel usage and reserves to self proclaimed ‘developing’ countries.

It’s only going to get worse as the creaking national grid has just about been able to cope with demand in the winter months for years now and with more lemmings going EV there will be trouble ahead.

We pay £66 p.m for gas & electric & normally get a refund as over paid at end of yearly reference period , so to be fair I’d not object if it went up a bit , as mrs doesn’t seem to understand that the water doesn’t need to be on for 6 hrs to heat up & central heating does have a off as well as a on button

Since the ‘Fit for 55%’ initiative they’re just now eyeing tightening up the rules for biomass, Their aim is to protect delicate ecosystems like old growth forests and stop wood fit for other purposes, like making furniture, from ending up as pellets or chips burned to produce biomass energy so hopefully that nonsense will come to an end.

You’re right though hydrogen cant replace fossil fuels in the short term but big oil are under the cosh since the WHO climate report, Courtrooms have become a key battleground for tackling climate change, Activists are seeing more & more wins against Big Oil & governments, There are 1550 cases at present going through courts in 38 countries because of inaction against climate change, Shell to name but one oil company have a team of lawyers working full time to tackle the thousands of cases against them for not tackling climate change & not decarbonising their industry fast enough. :open_mouth:

There’s no way that they could possibly meet their silly utopian aims without biomass and nuclear being the two main replacements for fossil fuel in addition to the damage that a solar farm can cause to the average green field. They’ll obviously try to paint biomass and nuclear and solar as a false panacea in that.

While those ‘courts’ and ‘activists’ obviously have no issues with any of that, nor actually increasing fossil fuel production, as part of what is just the redistribution of its usage. No oil or gas wells are being closed down any time soon more like production is being increased and new reserves around the world being brought online.

It’s a redistribution scam with the lose lose that it will make us dependent on an unnaffordable, dangerous, anything but green source of energy.
In which all the predictable excuses and denials will be made when that reality becomes clear to all those who’ve bought their lies.In the form of loss of forestry, destruction of root systems and resulting soil erosion and resulting loss of agricultural land, possibly added to by a massive nuclear disaster, at around 20p per kwh for the privilege.

Speaking of that “fit for 55%” it looks like they’re turning the thumb screws a bit further & earlier than planned! The next instalment for the emission tightening for HGV’s was supposed to be in 2025 when the Euro class 7 standards was to come into effect.
Looks like they’re bringing it forward to 2022 :open_mouth: when it will be reviewed as a third of truck emissions surpass air pollution limits on Spanish roads, Another thing that surprised me in this article was that “Euro VI also requires the legal emission limits to be met not just when the truck is new but, in the case of the bigger long-distance trucks, after they would have covered up to 700,000 km,” an ACEA spokesperson told EURACTIV… :open_mouth: euractiv.com/section/transp … udy-finds/

Bringing forward more green nonsense eh.
We’re in safe hands, they’re just ensuring the required food/supplies shortages happen, every little helps to further the great reset.

Yes you’re right, Diesel is being backed into a corner with nowhere to go before there’s even a viable alternative. I can see frantic lobbying by the truck manufacturers for a stay of execution.
The Italian government have been lobbying the Brussels HQ too this week wanting exemptions for Ferrari & Lamborghini over the outright ban of FF in 2030.

They’ll probably get an exemption too.
Never in the history of the world have the rich been subject to the same rules and regs as us plebs.

Ironically the Scandinavian and NZ type LHV would work better with electrification than cars will be able to.
As for the typical supercar configuration battery weight and energy density no chance. The EV supercar of the future is definitely a home converted twin wheel Transit van.Respective residual values seem to be confirming it.
‘Unless’ we’re about to see a screeching U turn on grounds of energy security and the fact that Chernobyl was the wake up call regarding the safety of nuclear energy.
Which is what the choice comes down to at the end of the day.
The German let alone Italian government knows that no one is buying the glossy wind powered EV ads.

No wonder the government want all home EV chargers to be of the Smart variety “Electric car charging points in people’s homes will be preset to switch off for nine hours each weekday at times of peak demand because ministers fear blackouts on the National Grid.”

“Under regulations that will come into force in May, new chargers in the home and workplace will be automatically set not to function from 8am to 11am and 4pm to 10pm. Public chargers and rapid chargers, on motorways and A-roads, will be exempt.”

“The government is also taking powers to impose a “randomised delay” of up to 30 minutes at other times to avoid pressure on the grid if there is a scramble among motorists to recharge their batteries at the same time”.

“There are only 300,000 battery electric vehicles (EVs) on the UK’s roads.” notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpre … blackouts/

How convenient for the outside charging station providers.
There was always a rat in the detail when car charging cables can’t just be plugged into any normal 3 pin house socket supply.
So they just shift the same demand to 11 am and 10 pm.
Look on the bright side it might just create the type of backlash we need against this nuclear powered utopian nightmare.

Hasn’t anyone twigged yet, us of the pleb class arn’t part of the wonderful green utopia they have planned, being able to charge or not won’t matter, you won’t be able to afford to and under the coming green agenda may not qualify for your place on a Zil lane if you could recharge.
