If they cannot make a profit (or at least operate with a reasonable subsidy to acknowledge the public benefit of a transport system).I do believe at least three people still use the trains. There’s a new, totally privately funded, Trainline that has started up on the east coast line with tickets from £15 - £60 single. I wish them well.
