Optician eye test

Had my eyes tested by the optician just over 4 months ago, had my medical this morning everything ok . Went back to optician to get page 2 filled in, and they say because it’s over 4 months I need another full eye test with the full cost of it. Just asking if this is right or am I being used as a nice little earner?
Thanks

It’s true that the information mustn’t be more than four months old, so what you were told is right.
But why didn’t your doctor complete the vision page of your D4 form? It’s simple enough and only takes a couple of minutes to do that page.
My advice would be if your doctor doesn’t do the vision page finds another doctor who does. No point in paying twice for both a doctor and an optician.
If you pay more than £50 for the D4 medical you should expect to get the vision page done as well.

I struggle to pass the eye sight part of a doctors medical , yet according to option I’m ok , this year even though I feel my eye sight is deteriorating the option says there’s no change
I can’t remember the cost but it’s not much for them to do the eye test & fill in part of eye test on form , mine might even be free as I know my eye test are now ( diabetic )

Medical form said must be done by optician, eyesight perfect according to previous eye exam showed doctor he said no take it to optician
£40 lighter for, read the bottom line with each eye, perfect ! 2 boxes filled in on the form and 2 official stamps . Easy money for some.

That must be new as I remember reading the letters/ numbers on the doctors door for medical eye test , and him even putting on the light to help me , but I’m guessing 10 yrs ago
Can’t remember cost of eye test for medical at doctors , mine are free now ( though I guess there will be charge for filling in medical form )
All my prescriptions are free now ( thank god ) so having to pay for medical form to be filled in isn’t too bad , but understand your frustrations

If that’s true it must be new within the last year.
If you need glasses to pass the test I accept it might/would take an optician to state how strong your glasses are as there is a limit, but if you can pass without, then the Dr just signed me off.

The wording on the form for the doctor filling in the medical examination report is as follows:

Before you fill in this report, you must check the applicant’s identity and decide if you are able to complete the Vision assessment on page 2.
If you are unable to do this, you must inform the applicant that they will need to ask an optician or optomotrest to complete the vision assessment.

Suggest using another doctor next time, ask around local drivers where you live, they’ll know who does the job properly and for a reasonable price.

Did mine today at Specsavers ( £35 ) , there 100x more thorough than any hgv eyesight test for hgv medical I’ve had at the doctors , trying different lenses etc , checking back of eyes etc etc , company pays for it so makes sense to have eyes checked properly

I had my medical three months ago. I used Docs for drivers, paid £50 ish pounds. It included the “cover your left eye, which line can you still read” eye test. I could still just read the bottom line. My distance sight is still great, although I now use reading glasses for close up reading and painting.

You only need to go to the optician, if you need glasses for driving.

And I do wonder if dozy should actually still be driving. Seriously.

No disrespect to our specialist contributor, if he is still here with us, as he offers his own D4 services, but for those TN members in the North East, I would heartily recommend Dr Colvin, £50, eye test included.

Last time I went to specsavers the test was free, if you had one of those coupons that come through the door. Don’t know if they still do them though.

Why , I have my eyes checked by proper opticians & pass the sight test with them , which is far more thorough than the one I remember doing at doctors , there was no mention of eye sight when I queried why my lisense had been sent to dvsa medical dept , dvsa renewed my lisense ok
And £35 cost for having eye sight test part of lisense renewal was paid for by company so makes perfect sense , if they pick up a issue they can maybe rectify there with new glasses etc , if a doctor finds a issue then all he can do is fail you
I also have diabetic eye checks & upto now they have found no sign of it
At the end of the day my medical at doctors ( £110 ) & eye sight test at opticians ( £35 apx ) are paid for by company , so I’ve no need to have the cheap crap medical ( I had one once ( are you diabetic , not sure , no then . Eye sight ( no test ) , not brilliant , ok then ) , absolute joke , in and out in mins , other lads there were saying the same
Now as my boss said if there’s any issue you’ve had a proper medical , eye sight test , so to me the £145 is well worth it , and I don’t have to worry either
All I have to do is update dvla if there’s any change in my health , treatments etc

DVLA have just announced an imminent policy change, “Drivers with eye conditions are being warned about imminent policy changes which could result in a £1,000 fine and three points on their licence.
The DVLA has confirmed it is set to update its guidance for drivers with eye conditions in the coming weeks.” fleetnews.co.uk/news/fleet- … 1-000-fine
