Well it looks like the driving career might be over

Fingers still crossed for you alfa man. Really hope all goes well on Tuesday for you. If I was religious, I’d say a prayer or two for you. But since I’m not, you’ll have to make do with my thoughts and best wishes. [emoji1]

That’s bad news mate, I wish you a speedy recovery. I lost my license for medical reasons. When I was over the illness, I had to be 3 months clear to get my car license back and 6 months to get my class 1 back. It may sound a lot but you don’t really notice it because you don’t go to bed one night ill and wake up the next day counting down, the docs class you as being recovered but you still have lingering symptoms and by the time you’re back to yourself and feeling ok to return to work your 6 months are up anyway.

Good luck mate, hope all goes well

Stay strong and positive mate.
Best of luck!

Dont get on here much these days, but came across your story Iain, and the other examples from other drivers, and just want to wish you all the best for Tuesday, and ask that you promise to keep us all updated as soon as you are able.

Best wishes fella.

Ken.

Now that I seem to have emerged from the haze of morphine, diazepam and god knows what else ive been on over the last few day I felt a wee update coming on.
I ended up in theatre for 8 hours on the tuesday cos as per usual when im involved nothing is ever simple, turns out the tumor was all over the place, in the cord, on the cord and round about the cord so the whole thing turned into a marathon for the doc. On the plus side they did manage to geta fair bit away and as it turns out the tumor was grade 2 which means not a nasty ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ a cancer but should respond to radiotherapy to hopefully finnish it off.
Unfortunately the surgery has badly comprimised my mobility and as yet a still cant walk and dont have a lot of feeling in ma legs, but although it,s a worry I’m not in a panic yet, docs are happy enough that ma 10 inch war wound is starting to heal well and as the swelling goes down hopefully I should see an improvement.
I think within the next week they’l be moving me into the spinal rehab unit which i think will be bloody hard work but im looking forward to it.

Iain.

Good luck and take care.

Beter out than in… :grimacing:

Good luck with your recovery.

Good luck. I really hope things start to look up for you.
Please keep us informed.

Good Luck. If you’re going to Stoke Mandeville watch out for Jimmy Saville’s ghost.

My very best wishes for a full recovery, snippets like this posted on a forum can only get the rest of us to actually do something where in the past we cross our fingers and hope for the best!

Now, lower back pain-check, hips ache-check, drive a Scania-check…ZB!

Best oh luck Iain,

The lenghts some people will go to to get away from lorry driving…
No seriously, good luck to you mate, and you need to get back on your feet and keep your license because it will only be a few years before the Giulia will be down to a price us mere mortals can afford. And all of us that loves Alfas need one of those

My little story with regards to seeing the doctor if something seems a little off :

About 9 years ago i started noticing a lack of strenght in my fingers, first thought i was just getting old but got to the point where i struggled to tighten a wingnut with my fingers.
Went to see the doctor who got me in to see a specialist 2 days later,he did some tests and asked how soon i’d be available for surgery ? Say what ?
Something called the Ulnar nerve was stuck in my elbows, yep,i thought the other hand was fine but the tests showed it was going the same way…
Perhaps a result of many years in MMA,but also something i’ve heard that a lot of drivers seem to suffer from.
The worst hands muscle was so far gone that the hand specialist told me that there was no muscle left and once it’s gone then…
I reckon it was to give me a kick up the backside when it came to training the muscles once i’d had the surgery, not needed though. So had the surgery and started traing the hand muscles and slowly it came back, the other hand wasn’t as bad so that recovered quickly.

I know this is nothing compared to what you’re going through, but i do think that us drivers are even worse than the average guy when it comes to ignoring signs that something might be wrong,we’re often away all week and when we do finally get a day or two at home we want to have fun with the family, not go and see the doctor…

Best of luck to you!
