good pic o o one o wullie pringles 8 wheelers ran a lot out of Morrington quarry, and I think the forestry commission motor was "diggers’.
Ferneyhough Farms was a throwback to a bygone age , the Wild West complete with cowboys . The antics they got up to were legendary culminating in the ministry raid with 2 brand new f10s stood in the yard with identical number plates . Tachos handed in were filed on a nail next to the garage stove . Eldon Hill quarry was owned by Thomas W Ward right up to closing , and by then all the haulage was subbies . A shame all those quarries succumbed to the wails of the nimbus and incomers . With only Tunstead and Dove Holes still going and shipping stone by rail to the cities it can only be a matter of time until they run out of stone to quarry , they can’t go down any deeper without hitting the water table . Good to see a few of Waters, our vintage club secretary drove for them for years starting with a bonneted Commer Superpoise and finishing on a Guy Big J four wheeler. He has many tales to tell!! He still drives their ERF four wheeler, ex Knights Brothers of Rowsley, to shows.
I remember Griffiths Leylands from when I worked out of Tilcons Gore quarry, early 90’s.
