My mum worked at Marks there for around 40 years and can remember my father using the car park there when collecting her from work and us then going for steak and chips for dinner once a week at the Griffin when it was a Bernis. BOC had the Marks’ transport contract then from memory and all the trucks were in BOC not Marks livery then. Also think from memory that the access road was clearly marked with double yellow lines then from end to end outside the car park ?.

Those who deliver to Topsham in Devon will know how tight it can be. Several times now we’ve had to call the police out to get cars moved. Often the local garage come down with a trolley jack or two and move said vehicles out of the way. You can only do it with a police presence, and the offending vehicles owner will get a ticket. Probaly about five times since I’ve been going there, two of them to the same owner!!

correct,i got a woman driver nicked there once at the entrance, asked her not to park there as I was coming through, she stopped talking on the phone and her reply to me was pxxs off, just at that moment a police officer walked by on foot patrol, told him what she said and that she was ilegally parked and he sorted it,i wouldn’t have minded as I asked her nicely but she got my back up with her reply.

It looks like box junction markings may have faded but hey ho problem solved. Bumped a car 18" sideways, with some help from store staff, once to get into a drop. Put the drivers side close to the wall but left before the driver returned.

like it,lol

went to Sainsbury’s off Victoria street once, had to go around the back to the service road,a car was blocking the entrance and I would not have got through without scraping along said car,we did try to locate the owner but couldn’t find him/her,eventually Sainsbury’s manager called the police who said to me to go through,i said I couldn’t,his reply was go through and he will sort it,so I got his number and station which he was happy to give and I went through with a bit of a crunch as the trailer t bar scraped the car, never knew what happened after that as nothing else came of it,told management when I got back but they never heard anything either, doubt you would get away with that nowadays though.

BOC still have M&S, food at least. Well, Gist do, but both are owned by Linde Group.

I wouldn’t have done it, unless plod gave it to me in writing that either the cars insurance or the police would pay for any damage to the trailer and the boss authorised it. Lets say the underrun bar popped the bumper which then cut a tyre. Including call out fees, you are looking at the better part of £700 damage there. If someone did that with my truck, they would be out on there arse in seconds. Completing a maneuver knowing it will cause damage. Crazy.

Had grief off a woman because I’d blocked a road in a Crescent (clue in the name). She refused to turn around and drive out the other way so I used my “allowed 20 minutes to load” excuse.
I guarantee I can sit in a dead end road and nobody will want to drive out. The minute I put the legs down and raise the bucket someone is “running late.”

Police can deal with any obstruction and it was then moved under police control = owner has no come back if damaged

Tough [zb] for any damage done to the car I say.

Wouldn’t say that if it was your car.

Doesn’t excuse parking like a ■■■■■■ though. I never had any sympathy for these people who cry to Watchdog or local media when they park on private land and get towed. Park properly and you wont have any hassles.

Wouldn’t happen to my car because I think about where I park.

Let’s hope the driver isn’t legally clued up, cos’ that looks like private land to me & whoever moved it is liable for any damage caused to the vehicle.

Just sayin like.

Would the Police get involved if it was private land?

Good point. I just googled this and it seems that the police have no power when private land is involved. It becomes a civil wrongdoing

In relation to private land, police still have powers as soon as a mop call them are invited on to the land.

They, basically sheriff the incident to ensure no breach of the peace or criminal actions take place.
