Road rage

Dork Lard:
Then you don’t know your own emotions & what causes them to happen.

It is universally accepted that ‘ANGER’ is a base emotion that is born from fear. If you have the confidence to fear nothing then it is extremely difficult to become angry.

What was the last thing that made you angry?

‘Experts’ may well have come to that conclusion, but that doesn’t wash with me. Nearly 40 years ago in primary school I was reading a comic, one other in the room (we were both excused assembly), he kept annoying me, eventually I snapped and had him on a desk by the throat, I literally saw red, I watched his face change colour, when it started to turn black I finally relaxed my grip and let go. We were both very lucky that day, especially as he was asthmatic. Realising the consequences of what my anger could result in, I have never lost control since. There was no fear at the time, the only fear since is that by not considering the consequences that I could actually kill someone, so I always take a few steps backwards if my blood starts to warm up, it will never boil. Unless of course someone does anything to my granddaughter, sod the consequences in that situation.

Wishing myself younger, nearly 50 years ago

It’s not really road rage anymore, road tantrums is a more accurate way to describe it, just a load of shouting and hand gestures.

I had a bloke yesterday that did everything he could to prevent me from merging from a lane that ended while in almost stationary traffic, he was jumping up and down like a lunatic, giving me the finger through his open window and leaning on his horn as he drove inches away from the car in front, revving the nuts off his car. I did make him work for it once I knew he was going to be a ■■■■ about it, but I was chuckling away to myself as he ranted and raved.

The funniest part for me was when i passed him a few hundred yards later, after the inevitable weaving around in front of me and a feeble attempt at brake checking me, he was sitting about 2 inches from the steering wheel and when he gave me the finger again i noticed that he had hands the size of a child.

Anger when provoked in a fight or flight situation may stem from fear, but for the idiots who are pent up and start these situations that does not come from fear?

99% are bullies who are empowered by a false sense of security being safely cocooned in their car. Most of these would never get out of the car and take it further. Those that do get out, most will immediately snap out of it and back down when met with aggression and the real threat of violence.

Only a tiny fraction of incidents will lead to actual physical violence and that is the problem as the people who will take it this far are not operating within the realms of a balanced person.

I used to be angry when younger and get triggered but nowadays my golden rule is NEVER GET OUT OF THE CAR/CAB. Nothing to prove to anyone anymore, much more to lose, and you never know if this is the actual ■■■■■■ who will pull out the knife and use it.

As said above, remaining completely calm is a great defence mechanism and will de-escalate most aggression, leaving them feeling foolish as they snap out of it.

Don’t rise to it people, stay safe out there…

Nail right on the head there, not a single one of them would act like they do if they weren’t in their little car.

What they need is a good slapping.

Really, wait a minute there, have you ever wondered why they are so angry? Maybe it is because some ■■■■ of a driver carved them up or put their live in danger.
maybe they both need a good slapping especially ■■■■ who will probably cause a bad accident with his bad driving. :unamused:

I can’t believe how some motorists are just one small blip away from total collapse of mind and sanity. People need to chill the eff out. Is it just me, or are people generally getting more and more aggressive and nasty on the roads (and in general society) these days? People are seriously depressed.

I think it is far deeper than that, there is a lot of seriously odd people out there now. People don’t seem to know what ■■■ they are any longer, folk eating themselves into oblivion, 1 in 10 of us on anti depressants, up to 20% of children experience a mental health problem in any given year. There is something very odd going on in society - is it too many chemical additives in our food, breathing in too much pollution, micro waves off mobile phones, microplastics in our heeds, some sort of biological disease sweeping the planet ?
nutters in vehicles is soon going to be the least of our worries

Bang on mate.
I am seeing this on the other side of the world in the normally placid New Zealand.
Watch some twunt post a picture of a tin foil helmet in an attempt to normalise this situation but the world is becoming more brutal by the day and there HAS to be a cause.
Intentional or not.

On the slow moving M42 the other day some selfish ■■■■■■■ queue jumper went flying up the M6 toll lane then at the minute slammed the brakes on and dived into the M42 lane causing all the cars behind to brake hard and bring it all to a standstill. I eventually caught him up so tooted my horn and gave him the coffee bean shake. A few miles later he caught me up and started horn testing me with his feeble car horn as well as wildly shaking his fist at me. For every feeble toot he gave me I responded with my airhorns and an full on fake belly laugh. Respond to road rage with laughter, it drives them wild but only if you’ve got an escape route. [emoji23]

I didn’t know Sigmund Freud had joined TNUK, the ranks of TNUK’s intelligence team seem to include specialists in psychoanalysis :unamused:

Blow kisses at them, or wave to them in a camp way If you want it wind them up even more

Anger is caused by drugs, you’re either on too many or you need to start taking them if you’re raving mad!

A lot of the abuse Ive had has been from other truckers,I’m sad to say

“Abuse” these days - seems to be saying pretty much anything that a complete stranger, acquantance, or friend happens to “not agree with in the slightest”.

“I voted Leave” You Git!

“I take milk in my coffee” I’m allergic to dairy products, you thoughtless ■■■■!

“I gave up smoking over a decade ago” What a hypocrite you are - grassing up others now for smoking in your cab!

“I voted Conservative last year” Disloyal Kipper are we?

“I’ll be voting UKIP next year” Disloyal Tory are we?

“I’ve got a clean licence” That doesn’t mean you’re a better driving god than moi, who’s got 9 points only because I got unlucky at the lights and speed cameras!

f— knows what stick I’d get from actual complete strangers! :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t get much stick from strangers.
However, when they get to know me…

There is much more road rage on social media. I have read some of the threats, I just think, is that actually possible and if so why don’t the NHS use that method?

Roads get more over crowded every year and cars with good performance are more and more readily available with finance etc. John smith who has spent all his money on an M spec BMW is then frustrated he can’t drive like a racing driver and use that performance he’s paid for on the congested road network.

For the last 6 months, I’ve been moonlighting as a bouncer to top up my wages for holiday. I have been witness to everything from drunk teens to 40 something speed freaks and have had to stop one killing the other more times than I can count. And do you know what? They have nothing on the road warriors we have lurking round our suburban streets. If someone’s ■■■■■■ or stoned, you know to expect the unexpected. But when a sober, normal person suddenly goes psychotic? You just never know what to expect

+1. I was a doorman in Blackpool for 18 years and it’s ‘character building’ ‘Normal’ people seem to go mental when they get behind a wheel though, like they’ve taken some sort of brave pill. It’s definitely a worry.

I was Dungeonmaster, and spent most of my time “Character Building” there as well. :stuck_out_tongue:

Never been involved in any road rage.
I just plod along.

Yes, but what about the numpties behind you. I bet that they are raging their baws off.

Nobody ever said owt
