DAF Eco Score - Who's got the biggest?

norb:
…On a plus at least AEBS on vehicles has put an end to light bars on the grill

Sorry norb

And just to bring it back to DAF’s

I suppose there has to be SOMETHING you can brag about if you’re driving a DAF…

+1 the bed is fantastic.

Over the course of a week, I used to get a score of 89-93% pretty much every week. That was with all the electronic annoyances switched off. On the Microlise I used to get A across the board, except for a glaring F or G for engine idling and usually a C for not using cruise control enough.

What that ^ makes me isn’t a good driver, it pretty much just means I’m slow and gentle with the truck.

These kind of score systems are pure management ■■■■■■■■. If you want your drivers to drive better, employing an advanced driver trainer and putting all your drivers through advanced instruction on a rolling basis will achieve that better than an electronic scoring system.

Management always takes the route of least effort to tick the box. Some manager gets tasked with improving Driver skill, and has to decide between specialist training or a monitoring system… much easier to simply monitor the drivers and if you catch any heat from above, tweak the system parameters to show an improvement in Driver scores.

This isn’t exclusive to haulage either, it’s across the board. Our society is going more and more crazy about cheaper is better and forgetting about quality, effort and pride.

Exactly this.

At the company that paid a bonus…drivers were marked down for over revving.
This was due to the stupid auto retarder fitted to the the exclusively MAN fleet.
I switched it off,and took the coin.

Which only goes to show just how stupid the admin (no one could accuse them of the title manager) were there, because you just wore the brakes out instead of using the vehicle as it was designed to be used…though confess i always drove in manual mode anyway to stop the violent action when it went down into 7th on auto-exhauster almost locking the drive axle.

We had a similar issue with the correct revs for exhaust braking triggering with our on board system, no fuel bonus to worry about and no one said anything but it annoyed me, so i had a word with the trainer who agreed it was wrong and simply reset the parameters of the system to the revs the red line started at.
The system has since been updated and its defaulted back to showing overrev so i’ll have a chat with the trainer again, both of them very approachable and leave people who can do the job alone to do their thing.

Juddian:

Oh god yes.

But I was the best driver on the fleet…“it’s there look…in writing…on the notice board”

Can’t argue with that

Never seen any more than 46 when I had a DAF yet still managed 9+ mpg running about with a bulker on at max weight.
Boss isn’t fussed so neither are we. Getting the work done earns more than worrying about a driver score does.
Just another distraction fitted to modern lorries to keep the hiviz clad drones in check.

Does anybody actually care about these driving scores?

The few dafs we have seem to sit around early 30s.

The messages that pop up and give you ticks are also stupid…telling me to brake more gentley to save on brakes…yeh ok i will just hit the car thats cut across infront of me then.

Worst units ever, along with stupid ivecos aswell

Used to work for a company with DAF’s of similar or same age, and I never managed any of them to come up with a similar score despite doing the same route and same driving style every day.
Most trucks varied from about 15% - 85%
It’s a useless system along with the AEBS which almost caused me to have a big accident the first time it activated. Almost had a Royal Mail puddle jumper stoved in my back passage when the truck thought an overbridge was a stationary object, but that’s something for another thread!

I had one that had 67% when leaving bellshill and upon arriving at Carlisle having been on cruise control for the last 110 miles was now sitting at 34%.
It’s a DAF. I wouldn’t trust anything electronic that it tells you!

agree with that,my 66 plate keeps coming up with ABS/EBS TRAILER NOT CONNECTED,then it goes off, nothing else on the dash, the fitters have told me i’m connecting it wrong, they have put a brand new abs lead in and said you shouldn’t get it come up anymore,15 min down the road it comes on again after they have ‘‘fixed’’ it,i just give up now

We have that with ours, especially with some of the older trailers.

Was told there can be a compatibility issue with older trailers that can’t be worked around. Trouble is you get about three different warning up because it says the AEBS has a malfunction, the ACC has a fault plus something else. All because of one non issue.

Although the last time I had the Abs not connected warning, it had blown one of the 3 or 4 (can’t remember) ABS fuses in the fuse box.
