Spends time at aldermaston to ensure the heads are stable and up to date,
In times of heightened readiness, these convoys become more visible.

I was watching videos of these convoys (yes I know itâs sad, but I have a weird interest in this sorta stuff) and some hippie types thought it would be a good idea to block the road then lie down underneath one of the lorries wheels.
No I was secretly hoping that that convoy wouldnât stop, or would stop then shoot the silly idiot and carry on or something exciting like thatâŚ
But nope.
The entire convoy came to halt and a few coppers got out of the lead cars and sauntered over, causally tried pulling the person out from under the truck and then just sorta stood there.
This went on for about 5 minutes, then they tried pulling the person out again, and this time they managed.
They led them to the side of the road and then the convoy carried on 
No arrests, no visible armed police or armyâŚnothing. (Iâm sure fingers were on triggers in the vehicles behind, but they didnât make it known)
So⌠if you fancy getting your hands on some nuclear material, get a mate to lie in the road, bring the whole convoy to standstill and sneak some off one of the trucks near the back of the convoy when no one is looking. 
I also read some of the damage/breakdown reports. Quite scary really. Pretty much every convoy has a breakdown at some point of the journey, hence why they have a fully kitted workshop truck and wrecker following behind.
Some of the reported accidents were a bit hairy too. How a lorry in a massive convoy with police escorts, outriders and all the rest can hit another vehicle is beyond me, but it happens, quite often too it seems.

People panic and tend to swerve into them while trying to get out of the way or watching what they do.
I saw one have an accident when a car driver swerved round the RAF police outrider who was stopping the traffic and went straight into the lead vehicle.
He jumped out ready to have a go and was promptly grabbed by an angry Royal Marine
They were designated Special Forces at one point when the RAF ran them and the RAF police carried MP5âs as opposed to SA80âs
There used to be an RAF driver and an RAF policeman to each cab.
The Firemen were RAF and the had Royal Marines Guarding them the out riders where RAF Police also.
I think they are all run by the MoD now.
