Apparently not Tories according to the Guardian. In fact our mates the FTA have manufactured the tanker driver shortage with probable collusion with bottom feeders like Stobarts to force the Tories to do a u-turn.
I’m no Tory and never will be but it seems Shapps is a better bloke than the FTA.

Should never have messed with IR35, that’s what’s changed everything. OK for cabinet ministers to do their dirty deeds offshore but they don’t want Drivers having a slice of the cake. Hell Mend Them! Why should we pay the same rate of tax as a 35hr per week public sector worker when you give up your life for RDC Store Deliveries, Chit conditions, failed Marraiges and God knows what else we endure on a daily basis, just for driving trucks. UK gov need to realise that Driving is “Skilled”, whether driving a Van to Class One. It’s all critical to the supply industry.
I don’t think the Tories are as daft as you might think.
They know ■■■■ well that there’s a driver shortage in Europe as well; but if the RHA and FTA now fail to attract anything like the number they claim to want, they can’t now blame the government if they don’t materialise.
How many EU drivers will choose to come on a short term contract to the UK, (with our expensive and scarce housing and crap facilities) when they can go on an open ended contract anywhere else in the EU?
Now we are out of the EU we are free to look further afield.
No need to employ expensive East Euro drivers when we are forging new trade deals with India etc.

No it’s thanks to your beloved Labour supporting unions who are backing the haulage companies who want the cheap EE labour back by manufacturing a fuel shortage crisis and perpetuating the claims from the companies that unless we allow loads of EE drivers back Christmas will be cancelled.
You need to go seek some psychiatric help, your delusional obsession with Tories is causing you to spout some right bollox.
Remember the EE drivers only came here in the first place thanks to your beloved Labour not putting a cap on migrant numbers in 2004 when they could have done. Meanwhile for the last 7 months the Tories have been telling the haulage industry they have to sort out their recruitment problems themselves and it’s only thanks to pressures from the great unwashed due to the union and haulage company manufactured petrol shortage that they’re relucantly issuing 10,000 visas. Those 10,000 visas aren’t just for lorry drivers but for process workers too so they’re doing the bare minimum to be seen to be doing something to keep the morons happy. Compare that to Labour who allowed over 100,000 a year for the last 6 years they were in power into the UK.
Everyone has been shafted by a one party puppet government run by the ‘UN’.
( And like all the Brit governments before, it doesn’t like road transport and likes rail ).
Now would not be a good time for anyone to leave anywhere with ‘developing country’/Paris Accord exemption status.
The EE’s have cornered the European long haul road transport sector they don’t want to come back here to drive a Hiab wagon or do supermarket trolleying.

And the thing is that by the time they source these drivers, arrange visas, get them into work etc at least another 5,000 UK drivers will have reached retirement age and packed up anyway.
