Working class 1 for 11 per hour

That is my situation, I live in Coventry every offer I have is around that pay rate or is too far away, I have 3 years experience, 2 in the UK with solid references, maybe I should move to northampton or Leicester.
I’m looking for something like long distance, tramping, curtain side or fridge…

btw I’m payee

any advice on which company or agency should I go for? should I go ltd? should I move to another part of UK?

Thanks

I got this app, paye tax, it’s on the app store, and you enter your salary and it tells you what your pick up is, with the tax and everything, you’ll be surprised earning another pound or two an hour doesn’t make as big a difference as you might think, the way the tax is structured. There is a job in Rugby Mon to Friday tramping £900 a week based in Rugby, night out, delivering water based liquids to building sites, I fancied it actually. Its on QS recruitment

Are you saying that you’re only being offered £11 p/h and expect more, or are you saying that you’re looking for £11 p/h Ray?

Take a drive up the 444 to Bedworth and go into the XPO/Gist site, they’re running plain white class 2 fridges on a Tesco contract out of there for £15 p/h I hear. Obviously shop delivers, but you may like it.

You can get better rates in Rugby just down the road but realistically speaking £11 an hour… I’ve seen worse.

LTD drivers at my place invoice at £13.50 per hour. I get paid £12 an hour. I get my pension topped up by the company, they don’t. I get paid holidays, they don’t. I don’t pay an accountant etc etc.

So just to add in… top line holiday pay is worth roughly £3k a year. That’s the difference in hourly rates gone already… stay PAYE.

I wouldn’t get out of bed for that driving class 1, Im on 11 p/h weekdays and 12.50 p/h weekends and that’s easy class 2 work.

Rates all depend on where you live - in some places that’s good wage, others poor.

If your in an area that’s generally poor rates and got offered £11 you’d jump at it.

It’s all too easy saying ‘ I wouldn’t …etc ’ without taking into account where in UK you are

+1. Be glad you don’t live in the North West mate.

£11 per hour Class 1 day’s is at the upper end of the scale round here :frowning: Mind you, it doesn’t really help when folk on the newbies forum are being encouraged to accept MINIMUM WAGE for driving wagons :unamused:

Yes, I talked with several agency drivers, ex LTD and they told me these days is not worth it, but honestly, having a choice I would rather earn more and not have pension or paid holidays, but still paying and accountant… also i’ve seen job offers where they dont accept LTD, I dont know…

thanks everyone for answering

That’s absolutely right, where I live the rate is about 10 to 11 quid an hour working for local firms.
12 to 15 years ago I was on a similar rate to that, working for an Essex co with my truck based at home , 300+ mile from base. .

Pay rates depend on a major number of factors including:

  • Start time (early starts gets more)
  • Availability of workforce
  • Average wages both in and of driving
  • Types of companies (supermarket better, pallets less)
  • Types of work you’re doing (manual work should be higher)
    etc…

£11 hour is a reasonably decent enough wage for class 1 days and a tad low for nights at least on pallets. It should be higher of course, but wont get there anymore just like many other jobs. It certainly ain’t just driving that has never really increased.

Ltd is alright for people who can leave the country quickly when HMRC catch up with them and want loads of cash they are actually due.

For more money, stay away from pallets a.d head towards either specialist or supermarkets. Coop pay decently but its hard work and daft start times.

O look, the usual, I won’t get out of bed for less than £!! Per hour, who really cares, As long as you can pay your bills, and live, go for what suits you.

Sit in any waiting room, or listen in any place were drivers gather, and they will all earn more than each other, Just ask them to show you a pay-slip.

I think Coop now use Scania.Co op in Coventry under Stobart. And there just trunking job.I had text message who Co–op (Wincanton)looking for drivers in Wellingborough.May be they close Huntington and or Godmanchesrer site and make relocation.

I recently had a guy from Doncaster tell me he wouldn’t work for less than £18 an hour and how much he was getting than me, I’ve heard this sort of thing ever since I went into haulage, really, if you want £18 an hour, you’re in the wrong trade, I think

Seriously andreys, you said you went back to wherevere you came from. And here you are…

£11 an hour is about the going rate for Class 1 in the Coventry/Rugby area at this time of year. It will probably go up to £12/£13 an hour in the run-up to Christmas (i.e. from September to December) for spot work.

It’s not good I know, but there are lots of drivers elsewhere in the UK on far worse money.

Don’t forget, the hourly rate isn’t everything. A company with decent terms and conditions, easy work is worth a bit less on the rate. I have come off transporters and on to flatbed work. Instead of rushing around like an idiot, I now do one load and one unload a day. Yes it’s £11 an hour, but it does for me.
