It's my youngest sons 1st birthday today, I was away last night and wasn't sure if I'd get back today. Which is what got me thinking.
What's the longest you have been away from home whilst driving ?
Then that led on to the next question. What's the furthest distance from home you've driven ?
For me it's only been away 4 days, most distance would either be Glasgow or antwerp, which ever is furthest from London

Probably doesn't Count here but,17 weeks to Pakistan and back[had a few problems]
And 5 months living in the truck driving in the North West Territories with my wife before we went back to Quebec.
Ralph Davies and Peter Gilder drivers used to do Kasakstan, and away for months on end, some made it near to the Chinese border, not a RDC tale, then John Mann drivers away in Morocco .
In Italy i Isaw trucks from Jordan and Ukraine .
2months doing groupage and backloads from Turkey to Norway.
Currently do a week away (sun/mon to thurs/fri) doing 4K km Malaga to Calais/Reims return..
..Loaded like a Freight Train..
I passed a Ukrainian Merc on the 74 twice this week.
Longest away would be 8 weeks on the boat, landing in Malaig and straight back out.
When the fishing's good...
I missed my sons birthday last week on Wednesday. God knows what it's like for the old boys who tramped in the 90s I couldn't do it without my iPhone and video calling!

I've got four kids, and through work I missed out on so many things in the lives of the youngest two: first words, first stand up walk, first birthday etc. and no mobile etc. to catch any of it, but the second two kids I was around for it all and to this day really regret missing out on that experience with the first two kids but work was work to keep a roof over their heads.
seven weeks. did it a few times. thanks.
Longest I've been away was 13 weeks, on a roadshow for Xerox in 1996. The itinerary was Geneva, Zurich, Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Warsaw, Moscow, St Petersburg, Moscow (again), Kiev, Bucharest, Istanbul, Belgrade. Three furthest places I've been are Tbilisi, Krasnodar and Tolyatti.
In the early 90`s I saw a few in Czechoslavakia. Can`t remember seeing any further west than that. Twin axle Scanias with twin axle tilts, all on big diameter wheels.
Interesting, thanks. I've never seen an Iranian truck in the UK but there are plenty of them in Turkey, and plenty of Turkish motors here, so I wondered how far west they do get. I don't suppose there is anything preventing them from coming this far.
Thinking back, I recall that there were quite a few Volvos on Iranian plates besides Scanias.
We miss you, Conor.
I've seen numerous Iranian trucks clearing customs in Dover.
I'm still here. Boss said loads back don't pay enough. Since I'm on trip money I'm happy to sit here til he gets a good rate. I did need a break on the way here, I must admit, but then we only use the old roads.

I did a run to China and back once with a load of concrete. Course I was only away for a fortnight though
Move over, good buddy, because the snowman is coming through
That's more like it
Longest away was probably about 4 1/2 months ( back to back jobs ) but 2-3 months is a regular thing .
Been as far as St. Petersburg and Moscow a couple of times , as well as down to Rabat in Morocco. All good fun

As a kid, it never bothered me that my Dad was away on my birthday, always made up for it when he came home and I spent a lot of time in the cab on holidays, so I understood what he did for a living.
Longest I've been out in one go was only a week - bit amateur really.
Mr Albion used to do Iran/Iraq in the 70s - couldn't tell you how long it took though, it seemed that there was always a major customs delay, a breakdown and rolling down a hillside once in Bulgaria that delayed things
I read about Ralph Davies motors last year, still have that stunning mk1 FH i believe!!
