I am about to take my CPC and become an owner driver I have C&E licence.
I am based in the west yorkshire area, and would welcome any information or guidance on finding my initial work.
Does anyone use the websites for backloads etc and which ones could you recommend.

Sorry to put a downer on this. If you are relying on a website to get work albeit backloads, I think you need to do some market research first.
Return load rates = half price haulage
Headlight magazine used to advertise all return loads and cut price haulage companys.
Dont make the freight forwarders any richer.
Of course this is my opinion only
I agree with malc, why put more money in the pockets of freight forwarders also this area of the business is renown for pheonix companies that go bust owing subbies thousands then start up again.
When I started up I went on with one of the container firms that was offering a weekly guarantee maily because I knew that I would have all my overheads covered for the first couple of years.
