To me, the name Height Indicator would mean something that indicates the height of the highest part of the vehicle, whether that is a roof spoiler, an aerial or a hydraulic ram, and I would set my marker at that height or within 3’’ of it.
If I check my engine oil I only fill it up between the two marks, not until it comes out of the top of the dipstick hole.
