M5 becoming 60 mph

Joined the m 5 south from.m 6 this morming.

And noticed metal 60mph signs attached to the lampposts going as far as at least junction 2 north and south
The signs are covered in that grey paint.
But there obviously getting ready to make it 60mph.
Obviously won’t affect truck drivers but feel for car drivers. And cant helopbut think it’s maybe a trial with a view to becoming the norm

No dought it would be reduce emission excuse

It’d be alright if the car driving numpties actually sat at 60mph…but they’ll sit just below an indicated 60 so probably around 54-56mph…just the right speed to get in lorries way. They’re that dense they can’t work out that they’re crawling when a vehicle limited to 56 is passing them. I wouldn’t even mind if they sat in lane 1 but they always sit side by side not gaining on each other in lane 1 and 2, getting right in everyones way

So true

How did we manage when it was only 2 lanes

We didn’t have speed limiters! Whip it up to 65/70, pass the slow car with no drama, back in and back down to 60.

100% correct.

60mph for air quality.

Poor air quality in the black country… Not the first time hey. Was the same in the 1800s. Lmao

Also on m6 though brum.

How come with euro 5/6 vehicles the air is so bad all of a sudden.
God knows if everything was euro 2 and unleaded [emoji1787].
Plus the slower you go isn’t the air going to get more polluted as it will take longer to pass a certain point [emoji848]

The amount of pollution emitted is in proportion to the amount of fuel burned. Most cars use significantly less fuel per mile at 60mph than they do at 70mph, largely because aerodynamic drag is proportional to the square of the speed.

Junction 4 to Strensham services.
